Salvo Next Week - Question

We are heading to Salvo over the holidays and will be there for a week. I am hoping to get some fishing in off of the beach. Can anyone tell me if any fish should be biting in the surf? If so, what fish and any recommendations on bait?

I live down in Hatteras. I am relatively new to the TF message board. I am not new to the surf - try to get out fishing every day. I am currently back in VA to see family over the holidays. I too will be back next week. Before i left a few days ago we were catching lots of flounder. The best bite was just on the north side of the point at Buxton. A few specks are being found around Frisco pier. Specs have been scattered this year and hard to find. in fact, most fish have been difficult to find this fall due to the many storms we have had. If you want to soak bait, there's a good chance you can catch a puppy drum - again on the north side of the point, but closer to ramp 43. Hoping this cold spell will get the striper moving out of the Ches Bay, but I am not holding my breath. Stay close to your rods if soaking bait, there have been some big sharks that can spool you in short order.

Just wish there was a better catchin' report for down south/OBX way still worth fishin'. Stripers, Specks, Reds should be about about. Take a bait/drum rod, trout rod, and a metal slinging rod just in case.

Hope ya win the winter beach fish lottery as the blitz can still happen :eek:

Thanks for the input guys. We also stopped by Hatteras Jack's, who was very helpful with the latest reports.

We got out the last three days but don't have anything notable to mention. Seemed like it was the same up and down the beach from Salvo to OI, with not much being caught.

We have one more day before heading back to MD, so we'll give it another shot in the morning.
