We used to catch all type of fish from the C beach peir. Lots of whiting, sometimes a bluefish blitz even with fish up to 5 or 6 pounds, some jack, a red fish, black drum, sheeps head..... Not too familiar with the mosquito lagoon or back water areas but would like to be. One day I'll give that area a good try. I've seen some guys around this time of year fish hard blue grab on the bottom under a bridge over a piece of the banana river right before you enter cocoa beach at night. They caught a few black drum pushing 60 pounds from shore at the bridge there but lost more than a few too.

I also fished Va waters yesterday. Did pretty well jigging the pilings.

Good luck.

My parents spend the winter down there and when I go, usually Jan-March, I have done a lot of surf fishing. You can buy a short term license as well. There is a good bait shop right in Cocoa Beach. Can't remember the name of it but its in a strip mall one block off the beach. I have caught blues, whiting, pompano, black drum and jacks. Pompano is one of the best fish I ever ate. I know a lot of people also fish in the Banana and Indian Rivers and that Mosquito lagoon. If you took your own boat that might be a good place to try.
