I fished the Susquehanna each of the last two weekends. Saturday I caught three from 33.9 - 35.4 degree water. One hit a 2.5 inch green tube rigged on a 1/4 oz ball head jig. The other two hit a paddle tail grub (about the same length as the tube) on the same kind of jighead. I was impressed how hard they hit for as cold as it was. I think that the rising water had something to do with how aggressive they thumped it. The lengths were 15, 16, and 18.5 inches. The previous Saturday was the day of the blizzard. I caught the 20 incher in the photo that day. It hit a green crawfish hair jig - one that I tied. I think that the river may freeze over soon, so a buddy and I are planning a trip to one of the warm water discharges in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Anyone have advice for that trip? Where to put in kayaks, what to throw, etc.? Happy New Year!

All I can say is that I am so jealous, one for the snow, two for fishing in the snow. Nice fish, stay warm.

Hey Jeff. Very nice fish!! It's Jon Griffiths, email me and I'll give you some info about the discharges. A kayak might be the only way to fish them as most boats won't be able to get out of the ice jams. With a kayak you might be able to carry the yak past the ice to the warm water. Jig heads and soft plastics bounced on the bottom wtih light braided line and floro leaders to 30 pound should do the job. Stick baits like jerk baits should work too in shallow water. The fishing was very good in December from what I heard but may have slowed down or no one can fish it with the ice.

Very impressive. I usually hibernate until April. Think I'll venture out earlier this year as you've inspired me!
