I'm looking at building some desks and cabinets. Any good sources on laminates? It doesn't have to be actual wood veneers.

Thanks

Just a little advice, if I were building a desk I would really and try and use laminate. Obviously veneer is much nicer, but a lot more delicate. You can really get some good looking laminates. Where are you located?

You don't need laminates to do a desk. Not if you use good plywood for the sides and use hardwood of the same (ie oak, maple ) for the face of the cabinet. It's a hell of a lot simpler than trying to laminate hardwood. I know from experience.

John- I am in Maryland halfway between Baltimore and DC.

Old town angler- Mainly I was thinking of using the laminate for the desk top. Things tend to get spilled on my desk since I also use it for lunch.

I take a hard wood and attach it to the edges of the counter area being exposed and then laminate to that also. Then using a router, cut it flush and then when the glue hardens, come back and do a detail on the edge and then stain the edge to match the desk color. Looks pretty cool.
