Guys, have a question that hopefully y'all can help with. I currently have the Lowrance Broadband Radar on a 10 inch mount forward leaning over a spotlight...I don't like the way it looks, just too tall and strange looking. The spotlight is about 7 inches tall which is why I went with the 10 inch mount. If I were to move to a 5 inch rear leaning mount, would I lose too much coverage in front of the boat or would it be ok? Thanks

The higher the better but don't think you will notice any difference with such a small change.

Thanks Cobb, even though the light will be in the LOS of the RADAR you don't think I'll lose too much? Thanks

I have 2 VHF antennas, Gps antenna, Sirius antenna, am/fm antenna. Plus a rocket launcher (rod holders). All on a T top with a Radome. That close it's not an issue.
Just look at pictures or at boats at a marina. Don't have a spot light. Think I should stick one of those up there too?

I do think you need a spotlight :D
Thanks for the input!

If the change is in inches, the difference will not be noticable. Here is an easy to understand paper on radar ranges -click here (http://www.atlanticrt.com/productDocuments/Radar%20Horizon.pdf)--:

As Cobb stated, the light will pose no problem

Mark,
I know VERY little about radar so I may be way off on this. I thought that ideally the radar should be mounted on the hardtop so that when the boat is moving the dome would be level (parallel) with the water. Depending on the boat it may require a mount that leans forward a few degrees or backwards a few degrees. If you went from a forward leaning mount to a rear leaning mount, your radar may be pointing to high in the front and not pick up objects (small jon boats) that are low in the water. I'll know much more about radar this spring. That is the next project for me. Good luck

Jeff,
Thanks, when I say forward and rear leaning, that is just the way the mount leans, the dome is actually still level. My biggest fear is a huge dead spot in my view if the dome is behind and about 2 inches lower than the mount. I learned a TON about RADARS during the install of this one, but still don't understand a thing! Good luck, we need to get out next year!
