VA clearly wants to allow Industrial Menhaden Fishing inside Virginia's Chesapeake Bay to continue at it's current levels. The CCA VA and other organizations are joining forces to formulate a plan. Make sure you know who your state delegates and senators are & be prepared to call & write letters very soon.

Industrial fishing in such a small body of water really is obscene.

Kevin, these bills extend the current harvest quota until 2014. Without alternative legislation, the current quota will expire at the end of 2010 leaving no quota. We all know the quota is meaningless since Omega has not hit it for many years, but I hope CCA et al will offer alternative legislation lowering the quota to more acccurately reflect the status of menhaden in the Bay.

jwas1,

If the Virginia Legislature doesn't get the extended cap through, they may have to give up control the Menhaden to someone like the ASFMC. Therefore they are going to push this bill through very quickly and that is why everyone needs to be ready to contact their representatives on the phone and in writing. There will be alternative verbiage offered.

I'm wondering why the EPA hasn't commented on this since they are taking states to task to clean up the Bay.

instead of "save the bay", we might as well just "pave the bay" if that menhaden slaughter is allowed to continue...

How about these for slogans:

NO BAIT = NO FISH, KNOW BAIT = KNOW FISH

SAVE THE MENHADEN

MENHADEN MATTERS

CHESPEAKE BAY NEEDS MENHADEN, MENHADEN NEED YOU

Any other suggestions?

Kevin

What a Joke! These politicians are all bought out. They could care less about the future for younger generations. Get rid of the Fleet. What's a couple of dozen jobs campared to getting the bay back to an acceptable quality. I personally couldn't work for the company. Someone step up in Richmond and make a change for the good.

I think it's just a matter of time before the question of where we obtain our Omega 3 at the lowest and best price....Industry is not waiting on the Mehaden Industry to provide Omega 3 in the future. Before long I think the Menhaden Fleet will put themselves out of business and the Bay will be better off. The politicians are all like dogs looking for a bone..at my age ive learned not to trust any of them. If they are in office more than 2 terms, they have already learned the combination to the safe.

There is a great article in Forbes Magazine on the subject of Omega 3 in the future this month..and where the product will be obtainable in the future........Not in the Bay........

try these websires: www.monsanto.com/features/omega.asp
HHTP://www.food navigator-usa.com/financial-industry/monsanto-solae-joint forces-for-omega-3

I hope I got those right.

Just my opinion guy's..but I think time is on the Bay's side for a change.....

Thanks for my 2 cents.
