Got the call from Ross on Monday that he was looking for a crew for Friday. Luckily I was able to get the day off from work. We had a great crew of Ross, John, Tyson, Brad and myself. Based on the report from Thursday we started around the 440 just overboard in 150 FA. Things started really slow, with only a few scattered reports of singles on the radio. About 9am we had a nice Mako air out on the left flat...had him on for a few seconds before the hook pulled. I guess it was 945 or so when we had our first tuna knockdown and it was a good one. 6 rods go down and we managed to get 4 of those in the box. We moved up the line to about the 500 or so when we got hit again. 5 down and 4 in the box...Now we're stoked!!! Next we had 2 go down. I was on one rod and John on the other when Tyson grabs the jig rod and freespools a 9 oz Williamson jig back about 200 ft., jigs it twice and gets hammered...fish on:clap:. We got all three of those to the boat. We found one more single to finish up with 13 YFT averaging 25-30lbs. Ross wanted to bottom drop before we called it a day and it was worth it. Using 350 gram jigs we managed a bunch of tilefish and two snowy groupers.
It was a fantastic day in the blue water with a great crew!! Always a pleasure to fish with Ross and Tyson and it was great meeting John and Brad!
Thanks for the trip, Ross!!
