last night i installed an sr50 sat. weather module and linked it to my c80, everything was good till i tried to upgrade the software on the c80.

I removed the navionic chip from the unit and put in the cf card with the proper down load into the c80. Instantly the back light on the unit went dark.... thepower remained on but the back light was out? then i removed the cf card and the back light was restored.. reinstalled the navionics chip and the freakn back light went out again...

This time the back light was never restored, and at one point while powering down the unit would not power back up.

Now the unit will turn on but still no backlight?????

Is this related to the harware/ software upgrade? OR is it totaly coinsidental and my back light needs to be replaced?

I see that raymarine will replace the onboard battery and back light for 299.00 and will perform out of warrenty service for a flat rate of 599.00

Anyone that has experienced similar trouble please gie me a call

If you have nothing to lose. (if you have backed up waypoints) you can do a factory reset by holding the power and the button directly next to it until it turns on. Last spring we lost our c-120 while at the point, wouldn't power on at all. The east fixed it but killed the waypoints.

I have not had that issue but earlier this year it went into this reboot mode where it kept rebooting itself before it fully loaded. Had to do the factory reset mentioned by satterly. Got it working again. Luckily only lost about a months worth of waypoints as I had backed up my waypoints about 45 days befor that. I would try the factory reset before sending it to Raymarine.

I heard cookie jars have bad problems with working correctly as well......
