Any ideas on how to get the hood open if pulling on the latch yeilds nothing?

I had one that got stubborn -- turned out it wanted a little oil but to get it open, I had to push down on the hood while someone else pulled the release. If the cable is broken, I haven't got a clue. Somehow you'll need to get ahold of the wire inside the sheath and pull it to release the latch. Maybe reach up from underneath? That might not do any good if its broken nearer to the latch.
Let us know what you come up with!!
Good luck.

My son's 99 Cherokee has the same problem. I was trying to add some windshield washer fluid a couple of days ago. Darn cable broke just where it attaches to the handle. It had been sticky for a while. I wish I would have thought about pushing down on the hood. We have an appointment to get it fixed after a new cable unit comes in.

If you can't get it open with the other post this is what I do when I have problems getting to thing that need to be fixed.
Take your tool box to crazy ray's junk yard. This is a you pull it self service junk yard. Find a jeep and start taking it apart.
If you break it trying to figure out how to do it, It's a junked car and not your good one.
They charge a buck to get in and the parts are cheap

just got done with this problem on my 99.....if your not that worried about the paint you can pry the side of the hood up a little(rag under the pry bar of course) and using a straightened out coat hanger hook the one end and try to grab the latch it takes a little time but I got mine after about 15 minutes of trying.....you will bend the hood a little on the side where you pry on the hood and the fender.... but hey its a jeep
