How many miles can I expect to get with the synthetics in my deisel truck 15,000?
Is it cool for trucks, does anybody use it?
Real question is can I use it for my F150 4 Stroke Yammies?
Does anyone use it for that?
Thanks for the info!

7500 at most . the problem is oil filters will not hold up as long as the oil would. I am getting over 175k in my work trucks dating back almost 20 years with no engine problems using mobil 1 synthetics. I change at 5k max

There are hundreds of threads on thehulltruth.com about synthetic oil in 4-stroke outboards. The general conclusion seems to be stick to what the manufacturer recommends which for yamaha is yamalube. I've always thought leave the oil to oil companies not outboard makers but what the hell do I know. I'm still in my warranty period for my yamahas so I'm sticking to yamalube because I don't want to give them any reason to deny any future warranty claim.

Contact Doug Whalen at Whalen's Marine, he has the scoop on synthetics on marine engines... Not Good To Use!!!
Mike is right use what the manufacturers RECCOMEND!!!

I agree, if under warranty still, I would use what is recommended, its alot easier than arguing with the manufacture,
However, if the oil meets the specs required by the manufacturer, than there is no warranty issue. Specs are required, Brands are recommended.
However, I am not so sure about the blanketing statement that synthetics are not good to use? I have been using Amsoil HP Injector oil in both of my Mercs for 5 years with no problems at all. I know of alot of work boats that are running the Amsoil Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine oil (synthetic) in their diesels along with bypass filters saving tons of money on oil changes and downtime.
Mr. Whalen did mention something about suzukis not using synthetic and I would probably go with his knowledge on that.
As far as vehicles are concerned, my 2006 F350 goes 15,000-20,000 miles between changes and pulls a trailer 3-5 days a week. F150 goes 25000 miles or one year (Amsoil for 5 years now). My wifes truck 25000 miles or one year. A really good friend of mine owns dump trucks, he has gone 75000 miles on the same oil using a bypass filter and oil analysis program. Amsoil uses their own filter technology which aids in the extended drain interval. Synthetic oil and regular filters recommended drain interval is usually 5-7k miles .
There are tons of fleets out there using the Amsoil (extended drain intervals) right now experiencing cost savings and increased MPG, without any oil related failures.
I am not sure about the other oil manufactures but Amsoil does have a line of 4stroke oils (10w-30, and 10w-40) that are specifically designed and warranted for 4 stroke marine engines.
PM me, call me , post here if you have any questions or concerns

Many mfg in their highest hp engines REQUIRE synthetic.
Like Howard, i have used it for many years and would not run a vehicle or boat without synthetic. YMMV

Just a couple quick comments to add. Amsoil is the very best in synthetics. The difference is the raw stock they use is purely synthetic where synthetics such as mobil start with crude oil and then us their own process to convert (still better than regular oil). Amsoil ends up being completely free of sulfur and nitrogen (which is in crude oil) which form oxides which degrades your oil. The comment above about filters is also true. Cheap filters are made with paper and degrade due to the small moisture that collects in the oil (combustion product and condensation). A better filter is typically cellulose and holds up although they still tell you to change in the middle of the life of the oil. Amsoil has added a lot of lines of oil and need to look closely at the bearing wear test. If their bearing wear test of the higher grade oil doen't make you a believer I don't know what would. In general synthetics meet or exceed the properties of traditional catalytically cracked crude oil. But the real difference is they don't break down over extended use because they don't have the acidic oxides of nitrogen and sulfur breaking them down. I run my cars well over 200K miles and they don't use oil. My diesel truck is now using their diesel oil and so far so good. I've been using it in my I/O engine and volvo penta duoprop and never had a problem. If you decide to use their oil, pay the 5 or 10 dollars and become a preferred memer. It ends up costing the same as mobil 1 the last time I purchased.

I don't know much about Amsoil but I've often wondered if it is so good, why does it need to marktet it's products via pyramid schemes....opps....I think they like to call it multi-level marketing.

I have run the Amsoil recirculating system on all of my diesel trucks since 1998. I change the filters every 7500 miles while only changing the oil every 50,000 miles. The first improvment I noticed was getting 18-20% better fuel economy. After switching all of the fluids out to Amsoil and switching to thier air filter another 5% better economy.
With the amount of towing we do with our trucks my Dodge had to have 2 transmissions installed in it with-in 60k miles,on the 3 transmission my dealer installed Amsoil fluid into it and that transmission ran for another 130k miles until I sold the truck.
As for running it in your Yamahas I have had several customers including the military try it and have nothing but issues with making oil, poor performance and fouling plugs.
Jody tried to run it last year in his engines with the same results,it took us 4 oil changes and 2 ringfree shock treatments to get his engines back to normal.
Yamahas' take on it is that it is not recommended as they have not done enough testing with it.The synthetics are to slick and will not allow the rings to seat correctly,it makes the compression drop off about half of normal.
