I would like some information about chartering someone to go cat fishing in the James River. Would like to concentrate in the Hopewell/Jordan Point area or up the river towards Richmond. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Been a client of Fat Cat guide service for about 5 years.......He's put this Marylander and his buddies on more big cats than we could have ever imagined......Great rates and a great time on his boat.....If you want to catch some big James River blues, call Fat Cat.....nuff said.

Kitchenpass,
All the catfish guides will put you on large cats if they are bitting This Bull Shit has been going on for a long time to who is #1. No one guide is #1 because no one guide can out fish all other guides day in-day out. If you are looking to book a trip FLIP A COIN. If you are tring to learn more about catfishing go to mastercatter2.com and theses guys will help you out.
Riverkitten,
I dont know who you are and dont really care. I had 2 hard days for catching bait out of 1 year and 123 trips so yes I called Joe and Chris and asked what area of the river were they were catching bait. These 2 days we still caught 1st day 38, 46 and 76, second day 30 and 43 lb. cats.

Hey Kitchenpass,
I wanted to learn to fish on the James River. I fished with Capt. Joe Cannon 3 times. I can't tell you how much Catfish knowledge Joe has passed on to me. He and his son Scott both Charter from Big Cat Guiide Service. 804-690-3875 Also you can check out their Blog at bigcatguideservice.com. Great People, Great Americans. You won't regret it. We caught big fish each trip.
I was in your very situation. I had my own boat but wanted to learn the River and Techniques. They gave me enough knowledge to fish myself and has also told me where I can catch my own bait since. Dont't hesitate. Call them.

I must say Capt Joe Cannon is a great guide. So are many others like Archie Gold. Mike O and Hugh Self. I think when choosing a guide you need to pick one that fishes the area that you want to focus on. Now if I was choosing a guide I would choose Archie. I mean a 95 and a 87 lber. Come on who can compete. LOL
