I believe you can gun them in VA with a permit, but check on that...... I know there were guys on here last year that got VA or NC permits and bagged a few.

In Virginia we have a lottery drawing for Swan permits. I know of many who were lucky enough to be drawn. We don't have a lot of swans around here but they do get some.

I hunt a creek just off the Chic in James City and last weekend we had 2 flocks fly right over our heads, but no permits, oh well. Maybe I'll get one next season, I'm sure if I do I won't see a swan. We've had a few Mute Swans, I heard they are not regulated and I've been told that the Feds want them all shot. Any truth to that ???

Plenty swans in Va and NC and can hunt both places with a permit.

Virginia is correct for us. They have a lottery drawing for 600 tags/permits. You can't see them very well, but they are bright orange and on the birds legs in the photos. NC also has a lottery drawing for like 6000 permits. Lake Mattamuskeet is the area to hunt them. I've tried to get one for NC a couple time but never drawn. I've been lucky in VA. I have been drawn 6 time in 9 tries. Wish I had that luck just once in the VA Lotto Mega Millions!!!!

Does anybody eat them? I don't think I would shoot them even if I was allowed. Thats funny that the Feds want you to kill em but if you get caught shooting them illegaly than its your a** and it is a federal offense.

Mute Swans are not the same birds that the permits are drawn for, permits are for Trumpeter Swans
