View Full Version : Need Help - using a peep sight on a bow and wearing glasses

So I pulled the bow out of storage and am going to start using it again next year. In the past I wore contacts, and while I can do that again, I have a stigmatism so the contacts don't work as well as my glasses. I've adapted to be able to shoot my guns with my glasses (well...after this year's debacles, maybe I'm wrong).
Anyway, my current peep sight won't work with my glasses and how I hold my bow. Does anyone shoot a bow with a peep sight who also wears glasses? Any advice on what type of peep sight (I know there are many). Maybe other tricks like using a kisser button? I'd rather not change my shooting style as it's done well for me in the past. I do prefer shooting with a peep sight and in my younger days when I shot a lot, I did well using the set-up I have now. Of course, if nothing comes up, I'll just use the contacts. Going to the outdoor show in PA next week where they always have a lot of bow hunting stuff and figured I'd take a look while there.

I've had the same problem. You need to shoot a peep with the largest sight hole you can get.If your glasses have bi-focals you will run into a greater problem. You will probably find out that where you want to look splits your bi-focal.This causes you to never be able to focus the same way all the time.Hopefully this will not be your problem. You might run into your glasses frame coming into your field of view. That was the problem I had.If you have this problem it makes it very hard to shoot.Hopefully you can see good far away.If so blurr your pin and make your target clear.Anytime you go from glasses to shooting without them it will change your point of impact. Please put a kisser button on .You won't be sorry! It didn't take me very long to figure out why indians didn't wear glasses. Good Luck

The problem right now I have is the rim of my glasses is in the way. No bifocals...yet.

You have to look straighter towards the target. In order to do this you would have to open your stance. This would cause you to draw shorter so you probably would have to shorten your draw length on your bow. This would square your body more to the target which should keep your head from turning as much. This might get your frame out of your sight. This would require some change and might not work for you but don't give up.It would be like just starting to learn how to shoot a bow all over again. You might try shooting with both eyes open. This would make the frame on your glasses blurr more or you might not even see it.If you shoot with one eye now this will be very hard to master quick.Try changing where you anchor on your face.I don't know really what else to tell you other than don't be afraid to experiment.

I wear glasses and use a peep with no problem. I use the one that's like a doughnut seated in the middle of the string. It's perpendicular to the string. It's bigger than the one's with the tube and at full draw, almost touches my lens. I have no problem shooting. At least at a non-breathing target. I think it's this one. The 8th. one down.

That was not real educated:clap::clap: I'll help you find it in the Spring. Give me a hollar next time you are up here. I know Little Bennett very well and have good connections with the staff there..............Gary

I go with the larger hole as I often sit on a field's edge early in season.

if you get the doughnut peep ( round peep that gets served into the string no rubber tubing ) drill it out until its big enough for you to focus .. I had this problem for years and the larger diameter hole made it much easier.. No need for a kisser button just keep shooting and it will become second nature...
I fixed my Problem back in 98 with lasik surgery .... Best thing I ever did SO FAR
Learn to shoot with Both eyes open to. It will broaden the vision aspect and easier to focus...

Never could get the hang of shooting with both eyes open. With my stance, a kisser shouldn't be needed unless I change something.
I'm gonna admit - I'm afraid of Lasik...too many bad stories, plus I'm not sure it can fix my stigmatism anyway. I'm fine with glasses, and like I said, I can go back to contacts if I need to. I just prefer not to wear them since I don't see as well.
Had hoped to pick some stuff up at the PA outdoorshow tomorrow - not sure I'm gonna make it now.

Bug, this might sound crazy, but I think wearing glasses actually helps me. I practice a lot and have nocking point down to a T. And that doughnut almost touching my glasses helps, I think. Good luck.
