I think you are asking about life jackets like a PFD. I bought mine from the clearance of REI. I have a Lotus and it saved me after getting rolled in a wave this past Friday.

I agree, Lotus makes some great PFDs. Also, my wife and I both have a MTI Freefall which is so comfortable we wear them EVERY time we paddle.

Lotus Mildwater is the best model.

I've never tried the Lotus Mildwater but it looks like the bulk of the flotation foam is in the chest area which looks like it could be hot.
I have the Lotus Rio Grande and thought it was a hot pfd.
I also have Extrasport Chica which was designed for women so it has less floation in the upper chest area (more foam around the gut). I thought this was a comfortable pfd especially on hot days. However it did not have alot of pockets for PFD, camera, etc..
I now have the Extrasport RetroGlide Sabre which has big pockets and does not feel as hot compared to my Rio Grande. This is my favorite of the 3 pfds i owned. I used my 20% REI discount to get this pfd.

The mild water is not that hot, the whole back is mesh.

I was going to buy the Lotus Mildwater, but went with the Stolquist Asea instead... i'm not quite sure what the exact difference was at this point, but there was something with the Stohlquist vest that I liked over the Lotus. I have only used it twice, both times in cold water... but it's a very comfortable vest, plenty of loops leashes, etc and pockets. I also like the reflective strips. It fits nice and snug, and I can barely tell I have it on while underway.
