I was in the Pep Boys auto store in the Price Club Plaza on rte.40 Middle River recently and saw a Pellican up on the wall.It looked to be a 9.5 ft.SOT in Mango, according to the info I picked up on their web.site.The price was $219 including paddle. This may be a good (or bad) entry level kayak for someone to start with who doesn't want to commit to a top of the line Kayak on a whim.Does anone know what the wt.capacity is?I have a 10ft.Mainstream twist w/3003 cap.for comparison.I've noticed that some longer Kayaks just have longer, pointed, bow & stern tips that really don't add to stability or extra room.

The above should read 300# cap.not 3003(3=#)

I'm guessing that the Pellican is around 250#,but I'm not sure.I couldn,t read the capacity because it was a good 8ft.up on the wall and I couldn't see the spec.sticker.

For any new folks, here is a review site to check out

Of course like a lot of internet info you have to be a tad careful with it.
Stability is important. On the other hand, so is the controllability (tracking) of the design...maybe particulalrly important for somebody new. I read a couple of reviews of the Pelican products and that seems to be an issue with some of them. Maybe it's not for this item (and it's somewhat subjective anyway), but it would be wise to try the thing out first if you plan to paddle any distance. (may not matter in a small pond) Usually that's not possibel when buying from a box store but one can ask.
Increased length improves ease of maintaining a good cruising speed. May be important, may not be depending on how far you go and how much time you have.
Paddle on.
