Believe it or not, there are some areas along the coast of Alaska where they can grow "Palm"trees.not any Palm Tree, but There is a Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus Fortunei) in Sitka Alaska. It is in USDA 7b/8a,meaning the average winter lows are seldom below 10f.Baltimore is in z7a meaning our average winter lows are between 0-5f.I've been growing Windmill Palms since 99 outside here in Harford county but the lowest temp.In my yard has only been +4f.My 2 largest Palm Trees are now around 8ft.tall and unprotected.Anyway,it seldom gets below 20f along some places on the coast of Alaska.
