Cleaned and respooled all my rods yesterday for the upcoming fish runs. Went to green top last night and resupplied for he season. I'm going this afternoon in Aylett. I'll post how things go! I've been bottled up far too long because of the snow!

Big goose egg in Aylett. Fished all afternoon from the bank: small & medium minnows, worms, beetle spins, shad spoons (had luck with them last year), and a few other little spin baits. I got a couple hits on small minnows attached to a beetle spin, but that was probably a blue gill. I can't believe I didn't even catch a bowfin or a cat.

Oh well, I think I might try again sunday afternoon, but I think the water is too high and cold that far up river. Anybody have any ideas what water temps might be? It seems none of the data stations around me are reporting that anymore...

I was talking with a buddy today, does anyone know if fish traps are legal in VA?

Oh, by the way, I fished the incoming tide, but the water was still rolling quick downstream, and there were still some ice chunks floating around here and there. I hope this cold weather and snow don't screw up the herring, shad and rockfish this spring!

Was planning on going fishing off the banks in aylett, either yesterday or today, but water levels have been ridiculously high. I wonder when the water levels will be somewhat normal again...

I went fishing in the mattaponi at Aylett this past weekend and the water levels were normal, not high. Didn't catch anything or get any bites. Buddy caught six, one of which was a citation. A guy I talked to said he had fished the Chick last week and caught 26 with 11 being citations.

I think the water is as high as it's going to get, hopefully it will start coming down over the next day or two. I'll post the next time I give her a try.

Nothin' doin. Pulled in a couple of little bass, and they hit hard.
Wood ducks are back out and starting to pair up.
And it it looks like water levels are coming back to almost normal levels, though you still cant see the tide coming in in aylett.

Fished from the bank yesterday and today, nada. Waters getting better, though there is still a lot of gunk flowing downstream. Got checked friday and saturday by the conservation police.

I'm betting things will be perfect and the fish will arrive just before the first drops come this wed.

And then the rains came. It's all happening so sporatically and late, I don't think we're going to have a decent YP run on the Western Shore this season. Hope I'm wrong.

Fishing from the bank a few miles below Aylett. Got my first YP today, just one. And I got one blue cat. Got 3 blue cats yesterday. Water is running HARD. Hopefully it will be closer to normal by this weekend.
