I'm sure it is a little early, but I'm trying to plan some fishing trips for the summer. Do you guys ever yak fish back in OI? I would love to try for trout, drum, and maybe flounder. Where would one go in a yak to attempt this? The sound is huge, there must be some good areas that aren't covered up with power boats.

If you drive south of the OI bridge a couple of miles you'll see a small "non-motorized" kayak launch on your right...there's an old broken down wooden bridge in view and plenty of parking.

Put in here, fish the bridge pilings, then look for the cuts in between the grass islands...plus you can get out into the open Albermarle Sound if you like.

Throwing flies and soft plastics (buy some at OI fishing center...TX chili color and other borwn/orange/black/olive color combos) on small 1/4-ounce jig-heads, we caught flounder, puppy drum, specks, croaker, and a couple of small spanish.

It's a pretty place to yak, too...saw lots of dolphin.

I've seen that place many times. Are you fishing in the "pond" or does the old bridge go out into the sound?

The bridge used to go to an old residence, now decaying...there's another bridge ya can't see.

The place is bigger than it looks and it does outlet to the Albemarle Sound...big open water.

But don't skip the bruidge pilings and the area immediately around it, loaded with fish.

Some say there are a few clams in the Area , for those that know how to find them / Shallow water (low tide ) is the trick i've been told .

Thank you old man for the info.Thats the kind of places I'm looking for.
I'm 62 just getting into yaking. Don't like big open waters.
On my first outing this morning in a fresh water lake to test the waters and the yak I bought yesterday
Caught my first bass out of a yak.! .[grin][excited]
You bet i'm going to take the yak with me on my next trip to OBX and check this place out.

bb, you just couldn't resist it could you. I know you have been watching this board for some time and keep saying you are to old or out of shape or something. Congatulations and enjoy it. You don't have to take it out very long or far to catch fish as you've already shown!
