The first sign of spring, early season trout stocking.
Check this site every day if you want to beat the winter doldrums and catch a few fish. Interestingly enough they are going to start to stock Otaroro Creek in Cecil county with a two fish limit. This stream gets a good hatch of caddis, loads up with hickory shad, has enormous Largemouth and maybe a few stripers too. I bet a lot of these fish wash out of the creek to the main river and people will start catching them in the main Susky. But then again, they probably wouldn't last long in there with all the stripers.

Been on it every day! Wouldn't mind catching an easy fish or two.
Now when they are talking about Cunnigham Falls, are they talking about the lake? I did not see BHC on the other list.
Me and Dalton will probably hit the Gunpowder this Sunday!
golfinjoe - When DNR says "Cunningham Falls", they are referring to the lake within Cunnigham Falls State Park.

They will never say when they stock BHC. I think they do it all year though. Trout unlimited and DNR will be float stocking the 3 different sections of the catch and release of the Patuxent shortly. The snow put a hold on everything as they usually do it in February.

Okay, I saw a thing on the website about how they were going to stock it with Adult Fish.
Same with the Casselman and all.

The website says Lake Needwood, but the lake is under construction. I'm not a scientist, but wouldn't that impact everything that trout need? I was running along Great Seneca the other day and saw someone stocking there as well. Luckily I have a 3 day weekend coming up!

The DNR website had Needwood as stocked last week. So I took some kids over there this weekend. The whole lake was frozen solid. Then on Monday the stocking list had been updated and Needwood was no longer on it. So I called the hatchery and asked them what happened. They said it was a mistake. Then on Monday afternoon the list was updated again and this time Needwood was stocked. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

As for Great Seneca????? It's not listed as having a pre season stocking? It doesn't get stocked until the first trout closure during the second week of March and doesn't open up until the last Saturday in March. Are you sure? Sorry to sound skeptical but that is very surprising. Mind telling me where? You can use Bmail or email.
As for this weekend... I would look hard at the Potomac river. Stoneflies should be hatching well near dickerson. Too bad I'm not there today. Waders, a 5wt and some stone fly nymphs and buggers would be all you need for a pretty good day of mid winter dry fly or subsurface fly fishing for a variety of fish.

Virginia stocking is already a month or so underway too.

They have had the two fish limit for a couple of years now. Exelon Energy built a parking lot on their property right near the mouth of Octoraro Creek.

A friend used to fish the lower Octoraro back in the early to mid-80s and used to catch some nice browns on sassy shads in the spring. Another buddy caught a 21" rainbow at the dam way back then too. Got to love the variety the Susky and its tribs has to offer.

Went to Tuckahoe and caught a 15 inch Golden and a 6/7 inch Rainbow. A lot of bait and wait guys not having much luck. I was using a small woolly bugger.
