how often should i re-spool my offshore reels? i know it depends on use, but i only go a few times a year and i keep them in a conditioned space when not in use. no damage on line that i can see.
every other year ok?

Every other year is fine....sun / heat is the greatest enemy of mono so if you keep them out of direct sunlight when not in use 2 years is OK. Run a good line like Momoi and you can get seasons.

Can you pull off the line and put it back on the reel backwards so the end you were fishing with/in the sun is now buried in the spool? I do that w/ braid on my bass rods and it works. Didn't know if that would work w/ Momoi.

For a recreational level you should be more than fine with every other year if you take proper care of your line........

A few times a year stored inside, I would venture to say you can get 5 plus years. Inpect it carefully for any nicks or abrasions regularly though.

I change my mono at least every year. When I catch a big fish that strains the line like a Blue Marlin or big Blue fin I change the line before the next trip. I don't want to loose a big fish because I was to lazy to change line. That being said I have started using braid with a 200 to 300 yard top shot of mono. That way I'm only changing about 300 yds of line plus it gives me more line on the reel when I need it to fight a big fish.
