I have some pictures I want to share with you all. Hopefully I can figure out how to post them. I had just figured out the TKAA site before some jerk f***** it up!

Now what do you suppose did this? This flounder would have been 17" easy. That is a BIG bite mark. I was pulling him up from under the bridge and BAM! When I got him up he was flapping all around like he didn't know his back end was gone.

A picture of my T160i rigged up at the launch before I left.
Other than the half a flounder I caught one 21" striper, a decent size bluefish, and had another 'monster' pull me around before it broke off. Oh yeah, and Ric, Kevin, and I got blown off the water at one point by 40 knot wind that came up out of nowhere and there was the insane current on the way in. It was a strange night. Not always alot of fish but never a lull moment at Lesner.

Flounder has to be a shark, I would imagine. The other one could be a large bluefish, but I'm guessing shark too.
I would have been re-rigging with a nice big hook and a wire leader.

Tom I said it on the other board but I swear that look like a 'Chopper' chomp. Last year I caught Blues up to 30" mixed in with the Striper. They're one of the few fish that I've seen that can make that clean of a cut that quick. Did you 'feel' the second bite ?? I've cleaned one 'back in the day' during one of those north side of Oregon Inlet blitzes that was a good 16-18 lbs. and it had a 13" Speck in it's belley that didn't have a bitemark on it [shy]

hey wpv- how do you like that tarpon 160? I am thinking about joining the ranks of you yakers.... and i've got a buddy who can get me Wilderness Systems brand kayaks at a discount so i'm wondering what you think of yours?
I would be fishing the James River from the Hilton area, the JRB, HRBT and possibly Poquson Flats from Dandy. I'm 6'3" and 215 lbs or so.

actually i'm starting to wonder how one of the shorter models would work. I want to be able to transport this thing in the back of my truck and 16ft would leave an awful lot hanging out the back!

danimal, you would be fine with a tarpon 140, the cockpit of the 160 and 140 are the same size, I have the 140 and it handles me pretty well , and I weigh around 260.

Danimal,
I love my T160i. I am 215 and 5'9". I haven't heard any complaints about lack of legroom from taller people in the 160. I carry this yak in the back of my truck but I have an 8' bed. Anything less and you would need a rack for it. It hangs out pretty far but I have never had any troubles. The 140 is a nice boat too and will ride in a 6.5' bed. Either one would work for you. The 160 is a little faster and I think it does better in choppy water. The 140 holds a little more weight. Both are nice boats.

WPVboat,
Nice yak set-up. I have a tarpon 120 I'm just rigging now. I fished from it around Oregon Inlet, NC this past weekend and love it!
Tell me about the pullys you have rigged on your yak. Is that for deploying an anchor (Anchor Trolly)? How does it work? I had the need to deploy an anchor or sand spike to keep my yak in one spot, but was not fully prepared for a full incomming tide.
Thanks Matt.

The lines are anchor trolleys. The Tarpon doesn't have a padeye on the bow or stern so I attached a Harken micro block to each with some heavy black zip ties. The other end is the same but attached to a padeye where I can reach it. Don't use cheap pulleys meant for your backyard. Go to West Marine and buy the Harken blocks. The way I did the lines was to run 1/4" braided line through and back to itself, tie both ends into an overhand knot, make a loop and tie the ends with a square knot. Then I tied the tail ends down with little cable ties. The whole thing will cost about $60. I'll try to post a link to the blocks I used. Good luck!
