Since moving to VA, I have had the WORST luck with marine mechanics!
One after another has either proven to be a rip-off artist or simply not very good at what they do.
I saw an ad on Craigslist for PRO MARINE SERVICE, a local shop running a winter special for $60/hr, and I decided to try them out when I had a fuel starvation issue... I told them I had a fishing trip scheduled for the next week and they put a rush on it, and fixed it in less than two billing hours and got it back to me in just days!
By comparison, other shops estimated at least 4 hours at considerably more money per hour!
I also have a 15 HP jon boat motor that has a mystery illness that STUMPED the last TWO mechanics I took it to. (I won't mention names, but they are simply NOT very good at running a business OR at diagnosing problems.)
I took this problem motor to Pro marine, and quickly they had a solid diagnosis with full explanation. BAM!
Right now, we are waiting for parts, but once again, I am VERY impressed both with the professional way they do business, their SKILL at what they do, and also how CAREFUL they are not to waste time when working.
I will post again once this engine is fixed, but already I'm confident in recommending Pro Marine Repair- (540) 809-2500. They are located on the North side of Lake Anna, right on the water, so when they do a water test, your boat doesn't come back all covered in grease, like the test tanks some places have.
I guess that's enough for now. Will update as things move along.
Just for the record, I have no affiliation, nor anything to gain from this recommendation. I just hope I can save someone the serious hassle I've had when trying to find someone reiliable, fair and bussinesslike to work on their boats.
