This is just one more step that Barry is taking to implement his managed destruction of our country.

I agree....we have two unnecessary, expensive wars, a huge deficit, out of control defense and entitlement spending and, let's see, what can be the coup de grāce for this great republic...AHA!....let's restrict sportfishing! A look back in history will show a clear corrolation between unfettered access to sportfish and the rise and fall of empires.

You guys are a trip. Is there any way to automatically consolidate these threads into one on the Conservation Board, perhaps titled "Commie Pinko Freedom Hating Gun-not-Carrying Terrorist Alternative Lifestylers’ Attempt to Destroy Humanity through Failure to Accept Public Comments on Fishing Regulations in Perpetuity?"

This has become much worse than the EEZ and C&R threads combined. And it's almost Spring!!

Marine spatial planning (MSP), according to the United Nations, is “a public process of analyzing and allocating the spatial and temporal distribution of human activities in marine areas to achieve ecological, economic, and social objectives that usually have been specified through a political process."

So basically, the bay could be divided up, shippers over here(fisherman stay away), swimmers use this area(fisherman stay away), boaters over here(fishermen stay awhile), sailboaters stay in this area, etc etc etc etc. Whatever lobby pays the most will get the best area.

Assuming that this is actually what MSP does, is there any indication that what you describe is actually being seriously considered by policymakers? Can you point to formal proposals? These are not rhetorical questions, I really have no idea, but the existence of such formal proposals might make a big difference in how I (and probably a lot of folks) view this issue.

jeff, according to the article the "task force" is more than considering it. Here's the quote direct for article:

" the task force is charged with putting in place a new ecosystem management process called marine spatial planning."

I do not have formal details; the only details I have about this currently are from this article. One reason this country is in the position it is in is because most people(and I did say most) live in a box and are not really concerned about things that do not appear to directly affect them. For example, just look at what most people facebook about; very trivial things like what they had for breakfast, who cares?? Anyway, since I said that I will do some research on this "ocean task force" and report back to TF.

Brian,
Without commenting from a political perspective, I'll say this. There was a thread about this a while back, which included the actual document. If I remember, the actual document described "...a public process of analyzing and allocating the spatial and temporal distribution of human activities in marine areas to..." as being an analysis tool, not a tool to divide resources. In other words - figure out where the problems affecting the aquatic habitat in question are really occurring and do the analysis at an ecosystem level and then use that data to "...to achieve ecological, economic, and social objectives that usually have been specified through a political process...". The objectives include recreational angler use. In other words, apply a % to land development, agriculture, overfishing, direct resource manipulation, etc. and then by using those %'s come up with a management strategy. I could be wrong. I'd find the document guiding this policy and read it.

Also, note the Japanese company opposition. On perspective is that it'll hurt rec fishing and shimano is upset. However, this management perspective stated plainly that it would seek to punish country's that do not follow the rules and promote sustainability. Japan is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to overfishing and exploiting resources in waters not belonging specifically to them.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2775574/espn_claims_obama_is_about_to_ban_fishing.html?cat =9 I was not going to post on any of these unless I had something valuable to say. But here is an article I just found that explains what is happening rather that the ESPN article which IMHO was written to scare us rather than to inform us.

tmperkins: Thanks for posting that link... ESPN needs to be held accountable for publishing such an outgageous and ficticious story that took quantam leaps forward to distort realities beyond belief.

glad I kept the receipt for the pitchfork and tiki torch I just bought

Cruising other sites and found a bit more. ESPN has issued an apologize as the original piece was an opinion piece by Montgomery and should have been labeled as such. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/saltwater/columns/story?columnist=bowman_steve&id=4982359

Here's the actual report all the magazine articles are grabbing data from. We can read it ourselves and form our own opinions as opposed to the opinions of some writers.

and here's what was said about Associated Content:

Associated Content has been criticized for the quality of its content. Slate technical writer Farhad Manjoo sums up this criticism thus: "Associated Content stands as a cautionary tale for anyone looking to do news by the numbers. It is a wasteland of bad writing, uninformed commentary, and the sort of comically dull recitation of the news you'd get from a second grader."

I stand by my original post, that Obama's track record of being beholden to radical Envirofascist groups makes him perfectly capable of using his Executive Order powers to ban fishing. Why else would he have made sure to pack the Oceans Policy Task Force with his Envirofascist buddies AND freeze out comment and meaningful input from recreational anglers?

They're fixing to ban deepdropping off NC, SC, GA and east coast FL via SAFMC Amendment 17B. All the experts said it would never happen. Now all you experts are saying that an Obama fishing ban will never happen. You know what? I hope you're right and that I'm wrong. I really do. But this Administration's tone-deaf callous elitism tells me he'll enact a ban.
