Is the newer lowrance a better fishfinder than the furuno?I realize with the lowrance you also get the gps which i would only use as a backup.I doubt i'll be buying the side scan or radar to integrate the lowrance,my interest is which is the better fishfinder.

This is just the question I was gonna ask tonight! I stopped in to BOE Marine today considering the Furuno 620. After reading posts by Mr. Kimbro and Reel Dragon, thought I would consider the Lowrance. I can get a HDS 7 with a ducer for the same price as the Furuno620. The HDS 7 comes with the GPS with a larger screen and a built in antenna. I allready have two chartplotters on the boat so I dont need the chartplotter. However is the HD Fishfinder of Lowrance comparible to the Furuno? Furuno has been the been the benchmark for so long , has the Lowrance HD caught up to Furuno's quality. I will be only in the Bay so the 83/250 transducer seems ideal. Thanks for any input.

The HDS is a good unit but I don't care for the "painted" presentations and fish ID which they try to pass off as sonar returns.

No plans of changing out my Furuno for a competitors unit anytime too soon although upgrading my existing FCV 582L to a FCV 585 is a very distinct possibility in the very near future.

You were in the right place. Ask Jim at BOE Marine for a professional opinion on how you money can be best spent. Don't think you will hear anything negative for either brand. It just comes down to how
you can spend less but get more for your money.

I have the Furuno 620 on my boat, it is a great unit and i love it so far. With that being said, i don't know which i would buy if i had to buy a new one right now.
I was playing around with one of the Lowrance HDS units at the local Gander Mountain, and i gotta tell ya, i like it......alot. The clarity and definition is astounding, and the new structure scan option is awesome.
I currently have a Lowrance Globalmap 7200 for my GPS, if i had to replace the GPS i would buy the new HDS hands down.
I don't think you can go wrong with either, epecially for fishing the bay.
