Lots of light tackle jig fishermen fish flys as droppers above stingsilvers, trout bombs, and leadhead jigs.

I have a question. Why do you thank a fly rod is not any good for fishing out of a yak?????????? Their are more guys fishing with a fly rod out of yaks then Carter has live pills. They catch tons of fish and some of them are on this board. Wheres Tony when you need him. bwahahahaha

Now if you have to use a spinning rod. Get some bullet weights in different sizes. Put them on the line in front of the fly. If you want to fish them close to the surface. Get a ajustable weight. Its nothing more then a tear drop bobber that goes in line, it also has a opening that you can add water to get more casting weight
but will still float.

I was interested in doing the same thing last year. researched it and found a web site where I downloaded spinning fly's with a bubble system. www.fishingnoob.com its really neat. but I eventualy got into regular fly fishing after encouragement from my 2 cousins who are big fly fisherman. I have used reg. fly rod out of my canoe. But go to the web site I mentioned ,if you have any problems send me a private message and I send you a copy to your address.

I doult you hit anyones nerve.:eek2: most of us have done the same thing for non fly fishing friends:yes:. I just wondered about what you said about fly fishing from a yak.:fishing2: As for line manegment. A yak aprin or a striping basket mounted or sat on your lap. Does very well for line.

thanks saltfly, i know its done all the time but i'm a klutz and with the hobie i even tangle up with spinning gear. might get my friend carl to build me a rod 7 or 8 weight and practice from shore first before trying it on the water. found a good article that said to make a leader and put a loop 8" up and on the bottom crimp on split shot until u know u are holding bottom and on the loop tie a fly to a 10" leader, for targeting fish on the bottom. i was thinking of tying one to a popping cork to see if a spec or flounder will hit,

I read somewhere (maybe here) about just using a towel and laying it down over your legs. I have used my 5 wt and 8 wt out of a canoe a bunch. The 5 wt in the kayak was fine but the 8wt was a bit unwieldy. I need to try the method with the towel and see if that helps me.

poping corks work:thumbup:.

Anything that keeps your line from getting caught of other objects works as well:yes:.
