Well now I know who the rightful owner of the long lines that got wrapped up in my lower unit 2 weeks ago. The commercial guys are watching this board. Thank god for the meeting coming up. If you every run into a long line and it tears your lower unit up like it has done to me then give me a call and I can tell you who you might be able to ask if it is his.He claimed it today . But since they dont mark them then who has to take responsibility. If you guys could see the size of the anchors they put out.I was planning on bringing them to the meeting but they took everything(STATE POLICE). Hope the longliner brings me a lower unit. Ive hit 1 anchor and wrapped my prop up in there so called marking line. I will post the pics that I have if some one will tell me how too.

I've been following this thread for what seems to be years now. I did read some of the regs that Tom Powers posted, and just wanted to thank him for his time. That brings up a couple more questions. Where and to whom are these guys selling these fish? Without names and places or maybe a few pics, it's just more talk. Are they by chance selling any of their catch to Omega? From what I've read, Omega had a lawsuit filed against them this month in California. It seems that the state is finding traces of PCB's in their OMEGA-3 fish oil, imagine that! If there are still traces of PCB in a by product, after it has been processed, just about how much is in the real thing. Another post asked if I would eat the catfish out of the James? Would you drink the water? Same difference. Aren't these commercial guys supposed to record their catch to the VMRC?

Commercial fishing removed all the Sturgeon from the James River. There used to be as many Sturgeon as Blue Catfish. At least the Sturgeon were not toxic.
Commercial fishermen will rape the river (like they did the Rappahannock) and do the same to the Blue Catfish. Probably many of the same scumbags.

Insist on a gear marking requirement for trot lines in the rivers. There is not excuse for them not marking the gear so that the public can avoid damaging their motors and loosing terminal tackle.

I agree with the current regulation of 1 longer than 32" per day. I would like to know the penalty if someone is caught ? Is it enough of a fine to curb the financial profits of commercial fisherman. If someone uses a trot line how can multiple fish over 32" not be caught and killed? A number of pay lakes from the mid west buy these fish live, aren't these fish owned by the state while alive? Just some thoughts for thursday's meeting.
