My good friend, Jared, and I fished the upper Severn yesterday; departed from Valentine Creek and headed north, pitching small plastic flukes on jigs and in-line spinners around docks and shore cover. Not much action; a peck here and there. Didn't see much on the fish finder either. Water temps were 56-57 degrees.

We did get this nice carp though. She made one nice run, peelin some line, but then settled down and we boated her (and released).

did you catch the carp on an artificial lure?

Yes! It sucked up the plastic fluke. Couldn't believe it! Obviously we weren't targeting carp :eek2:

That's cool. Nice fish! I know guys catch them on flies. I've never targeted carp before, but I did catch one a few years back while flyfishing for smallmouth bass. It took me about 10 minutes to land. Terrific fighters. Last summer I inadvertantly snagged a big carp on the Juniata while fishing for smallies. It shot out of the water like a tarpon when I hooked it! When I brought the fly in there was a scale the size of a silver dollar on the hook. ;)
