I was in the Harford County area yesterday so took a ride up to Deer Creek, which feeds into the Susquehanna. It was bright and sunny, the water was high and clear in the creek, and there was only one other angler around. Looking off the Stafford Rd. Bridge, I saw pods of fish here and there, which was nice to see. I managed to catch one one a black and orange fly, and had another flash behind it. Then nada. What was supposed to be a little half hour stop and check turned into a whole afternoon, though. Just couldn't leave. At around four, I was about to leave, when I watched a guy catch three in a row, so I just stayed for one more cast, so to speak.
Anyway, managed to catch two more on the normal chartreuse fly. Not fast and furious yet, but they're in there. At the mouth of the creek, I counted 18 spin fishermen side by side. They were catching an occasional shad. Also saw three big splashes. Kind of fun to hear the collective oohs and aahs from everybody on the shore each time that happened.
I stopped fishing there several years ago because it was a bit of a hassle to fish such a small area with so many other anglers (even by social shad standards). Also too many foul hooked fish. Still, a nice afternoon.
