OK, I couldn't find a way to make the title less gay without it being less clear. It has often occured to me, however, that a lot of us fish Fletchers alone in rented boats. $20 isn't that much to part with for a couple hours on the water, but splitting a boat frequently over the season does pay for a mid-grade light tackle real (say, the Mitchell Avocet II that I just bought specifically for shad fishing:thumbup:). More importantly, it can be a fun way to meet folks and trade techniques/lies. As I've confessed in the past, I don't fly fish (yet), but will happily share a boat with you ascot-wearing types if you're down there and are so inclined.

I'll be there tomorrow morning at 7am sharp, wearing a tan WilmerHale baseball cap and green jacket. Whether or not you want to share a boat, stop over and say hi if you see me. I'd like to meet more of the folks who frequent this board and share my obsession of tarpon-light. My only constraint is that I usually need to be back on the dock by 8:45, although you're certainly free to row back out and use the boat all day (subject to Paula's ok).

I tried from 7-8:45 this morning. The place was nearly empty. I set up at a nice boil not far from the cove. The tide was dead low and seemed to stay that way. The action was slow; I saw only one other shad caught of the 3-4 boats shad fishing. I managed 6 hickories from about 14-17.” They seemed to prefer a tandem rig with a shad spoon, but that rig was on my 10-lb spin outfit. I really wanted to use my ultralight that had a single, medium-large chart dart, otherwise the action may have been a bit faster. Also, I was out of my go-to dark green/black darts that are perfect in stained water, but enough excuses….it was still a nice way to kick off the season.

I hope to be back there Wednesday morning.
