Headed down to the river around 5:30 this evening to try for some shad. Ran into a buddy and he was fishing for white perch from the bank, another friend jumped in the skiff with me and we headed up to the 95 bridge. Trolled spoons on the way up and he caught 1 hickory and I lost 1. Achored up near the bridge and I switched to a chartruese shad dart and first catch was a herring. in the next 45 minutes I caught 8 white perch and 1 shad, buddy caught 1/2 dozen shad and lost as many at the boat. I took the perch back to my other freind that was fishing for them, I had as many in 45 minutes than he had caught in a few hours.
It was interesting, I was casting to one bank and him the other. I found a hole full of perch and the only shad I caught was on his side of the boat, he caught nothing but shad.
Got the boat out just before dark and we cut up a couple shad and put out some catfish rods. Buddy got a big one to the bank and got wrapped up around a root or something and couldn't get it in and finally broke off. I missed a couple, another guy with us caught several small ones. I gave up after about an hour and headed home.
