Hi everyone, not sure if everyone knows this but next Saturday (4/24/10) is the Family and Youth National Casting Call at Fletcher's boat house. I am posting this because volunteers are needed and for the shad fanatics to plan around. If anyone wants more information, it can be found here: http://www.familyandyouthcastingcall.com/
Click the "Volunteer!" tab if you want to get registered to help out. We had a guy from the organization speak at our last FFF meeting and he said 600+ kids showed up last year.

Additionally, there is the Jim Range National Casting call on Thursday (4/22/10) next week. This is an event where the heavy hitters in the government are taken out fishing at Fletcher's. I know they have some number of boats reserved here to take out congressmen, department heads, etc.; so getting a boat on Thursday might be difficult. This event is put on by the same group and help may be needed as well: http://www.nationalcastingcall.com/

Dalton - I had completely forgotten about the annual Casting Call. Thanks for the heads up. Everyone else... Based on past years, if you're not helping out at these events then its best to avoid those days. Last Thursday15th, the National Park boys were just about done grinding up that mountain of logs that flooding had dropped at Fletchers. Its starting to look decent there again.

Don't even think about trying to rent a boat on Thursday 4/22. Congressional Casting Call will be using all the boats.

I fished today, here's my rpt:

Old Man - Thanks for the blog report. It was definitely chilly up here in the mountains this weekend near Emmitsburg. I had the woodstove cookin all day Saturday and Sunday. Cool snaps like this can put a severe damper on any fish that's thinking of spawning. Based on my shad fishing this year at Fletchers and on reports by others seems this year's run of hickories is not as robust as other years. As I remember, by now hickory action should be approaching silly fast but I'm still working hard to catch a couple dozen in 5 hours. Dunno though... maybe I just missed all the really good days where triple digits are possible. We'll see what the next 2 weeks brings.

I forgot to mention this, but there is also a less advertised but related event on Friday this week for the Family Tyes organization. Water levels pending, there should be a dozen or two inner city youth fishing for shad out of the boats at Fletcher's. I am uncertain about the number of boats that are reserved, but it might be tough to get one of the boats Friday morning as well. Again, volunteers are needed for this event. Volunteers will row the boats and put the kids on fish. If interested in helping out, shoot Brad Gentner an e-mail at Brad@GentnerGroup.com.
