On the pop-up blind thread started by GAW, I posted the following site:

This weekend, I tried it out, the results were pretty good.

I used 3 spinning coat hangers, and would add a bunch of grass, then make two twists, and using small zip ties, snugg the twists as tight to the grass as possible. I did not use zip ties on every bunch of grass, just every two or three.

I'm very pleased with the mat, and when I have more time I intend to make a bunch more. Overall, it took me two hours to make the one shown. Would have taken less time if I had a weed wacker to cut the grass rather than a scythe. And once I got the hang of the weaving part, that didn't take much time at all. One thing I did do wrong was make my bunches of grass too big at the bottom, it is very simple to spread the grass out, so I could have made a mat about 1' to 1.5' wider using the same amount of grass.

That looks good. I tried the same thing a few years back and it took a ton of grass and I ended up with a mess. This time I'm gonna get some rafia grass from a Luau supply place...I hear Michaels crafts has some good stuff too.

I did not have to use all that much grass to get it done, the individual bundles do not have to be big, and I was stacking them rather than bunching them up.

I went to home depot and got a roll of green snow fence.
Then bundled the grass with zip ties and attatched it to the snow fence with zip ties. Rolled up with the grass on the inside
the held up pretty well and were easy to carry.
