I have a NOAA issued number for fising in Maryland coastal waters and just boat a boat license for Delaware. Will the NOAA number work for the Delaware FIN or do I have to get another from Delaware? Can guests use their NOAA number or do they need one from Delaware?

Thanks,
Chris

As far as I know, you need a Delaware EIN too

your fin number is a federal number and is good throughout the all states, no need to get another

The Federal NSAR is needed in Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and some New England states. It's needed where the states do not yet
have a method to pass the data to the feds from their state license programs.

In Delaware, you need a saltwater fishing license to fish within the 3 mile limit. There is a spot on your license where the FIN number gets written. Usually the place where
you buy your license will call and get you a FIN number and write it in for you as you're buying the license.

License cost is usually $10 resident and $21.50 non-resident.

But to directly answer your question, yes you need a Delaware FIN number in Delaware. And a Delaware saltwater license to go with it.

In fact, the way I read it, it's almost the opposite of what you ask. If you have a Delaware FIN, you don't need to call and get a Federal NSAR
number to fish in Maryland. All the feds want is your phone number through whatever state or method to put you on the survey list.

There are a zillion combinations to complicate this of course. Like fishing off of a boat that has a saltwater boat fishing license. In that case, you
still need the FIN number. If you only fish from a headboat or a charter, then you don't need the FIN.

Not easy keeping up with all of this and it will all change again next year when Maryland has the coastal saltwater license system in place.

I just went thru this at hook'em and cook'em tackle. They got updated info and said if you have a NOAA # and register as fishing in Del. you do not need a fin #.

Wow - Delaware must have realized that they were merely duplicating efforts and actually doubling reporting of fish caught in DE.
