Is the NOAA fishing registration number OK in Delaware or do I need one from Delaware to go with my out of state fishing license?
Thanks,

Chris

A single 2010 NOAA registration is good in all US states and territories, so you do not need another one to fish in other states.

Steve,

I finally reached a person at Delaware DNR. She told me that I must have a Delaware FIN even if I have a NOAA fin. Despite that fact that Delaware turns this information over to NOAA, she had no sympathy for my comment that they now have my information twice.

I asked her to add a bullet on the on-line registration page clarifiying this. She said she would pass this on.

This means that I have to make sure that everyone who comes to fish on my boats has both a NOAA fin (for Maryland) and a Delaware fin unless I know for sure where we are going.

Thanks for responding.

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for providing the follow-up information. I realize it adds hassles for you and some guests, but I see where the state of DE is coming from--everyone fishing in tidewater in DE needs to be registered with the state to ensure no fisherman "falls thru the cracks."

I did not really answer your question in my first response. I answered from the perspective of needing only a single fed registration to fish in multiple states, but you asked about whether the DE state registration requirement would be met by having the fed registration.

Thanks again for the follow up and good luck fishing this season!

Something isn't right here. A DE FIN# is good in other states but other states #'s are not good in DE. Anyone know why?

I was under the impression that a FIN was a FIN regardless of state being fished in. The NOAA site requires you to enter which state(s) you plan on fishing in. But I did notice that last year when I got my first FIN I used a Del. web site that didn't ask which states I was going to be fishing in.
I have bought my licenses for Del. and Va. this year and neither of them asked if I had a FIN for thier state, only if I had a FIN.

Here is what the NOAA site has under FAQ...
Saltwater Angler Registry

Will you be fishing under the authority of one of the following licenses, registrations or permits? (Click on the first that applies to you.)

Highly Migratory Species Angling permit

Commercial fishing license or permit issued by NOAA Fisheries or a state/territory

Subsistence fishing license or permit issued by NOAA Fisheries or a state/territory

A saltwater recreational fishing license or registration issued by one of the following states/territories: Alabama, Alaska, American Samoa, California, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Washington

NO. I do not possess a current and valid saltwater fishing license, registration or permit from one of the above mentioned states/territories.
I clicked on the fourth choice...

Saltwater Angler Registry

That state or territory currently has an agreement in place with NOAA whereby anglers who possess a license are automatically registered. You do not need to take any further action at this point. However please make sure to learn about and follow the regulations where you will be fishing. You can contact the local department of natural resources or the National Marine Fisheries Service Regional Office for more information.

So who knows...according to this you automatically are registered when you get a De. license. Since it is free, for now, I just used the NOAA site this year.

It would appear that the powers that decided that they need our information dont understand their own rules. typical government. to be on the safe side I have registered for my De Fin as well as the NOAA fin. I believe that the fine for not having one is $75.00. Also if you purchase a De license you are NOT automatically registered, you must get the DE fin separately. Hopefully someday they will finally decide how they are going to screw us and let us know the proper position for the screwing !

Lets just buy one national stamp such as the federal bird hunting stamp and make it good in all states.Feds did the same with migratory birds, told the states to collect data now the states issue a stste migaroty bird hunting stamp to cover the fed mandated cost of collecting this info.
