View Full Version : Question OT: Tidal Fish Load Times

I was thinking maybe it was just me but after using three different computers in the house I am thinking maybe something is going on with the site. It seems that load times for pages (especially the initial load) have increased significantly beyond normal. It is sporadic and not in every case but happens quite a bit. "Normal" performance is a really hard thing to define in terms of web site performance but I thought it might be worth checking with others to see if this is something on my end only (maybe my ISP) or is this more widespread across the user base. If so I am sure Brandon might be interested in knowing.

It happened right after the RAM upgrade. Which Brandon promised would really help the load times.

What do you regard as slow? I use Verizon wireless. I just timed getting a thread to open. Going from a blank home page on Firefox, I took me 3 clicks and 12 seconds to reading a thread. Good or bad?

Doesn't seem that bad especially given that you are on a Verizon wireless card (or you are tethered to your cell phone). Plus Firefox is generally faster anyway than IE 8 which is what I am running. Whenever I have had an issue it was just sitting and thinking a long time before it could load a page. I am using high speed cable at home or Verizon DSL when I am down at the river. The issues are sporadic and I am still not sure there is even a problem at all as it could be a bunch of other things unrelated to TF.

I use google chrome and I am a Verizon DSL customer. Sometimes it is good and bad. I am wondering if it's traffic? What do you all think? I don't think it has anything to do with TidalFish. I wish we would get Verizon Fios. I heard that is really fast.

speedtest.net is a good one. You will not notice a great difference in FIOS and DSL if you are simply browsing websites and doing email. If you are downloading large amounts of data and streaming high def video it will make all the difference in the world. But just keep dreaming briggete, that would mean a complete infrastructure overhaul in our area. Don't expect it any time soon.

I use both Hughesnet and Verizon wireless and have no speed issues. It appears that an extra step is required, since the latest changes at Tidalfish, to get to the forum selection page which was not an improvement. Otherwise, no probs.

I'm using Comcast here in Hanover county and I haven't noticed any significant change in response times either way since the recent site upgrades. Pages usually load between 2-6 seconds for me. I get similar response times from other forum sites such as Stripers247.com.

Just navigate to the forums page and set your bookmark or favorite there, and you can skip the extra step.
