Well after yet another frustrating day of not catching Saturday, I found myself with some free time and at least a few hours until storms hit, so I headed out solo Sunday afternoon. Was only blwing 10-15, 1-2' chop out there. I've fished worse.

So went to Tolly, headed south to set up my spread (9 rods), after getting set up made my way back up to Tolly and then east across the wind. A little rolly. Hear the VHF weatherperson say "The 5 o'clock report..." and looked out to see a scotty clip dangling from the planer line, and the rod that was clipped is doin some bouncing. Grab the rod, slow the boat and head her downwind, and pulled in a nice fish. Put the rod in the holder, leadered her in and grabbed the bucktail and swung her over. When she was in the water I thought she might be close to 28". When she hit the deck I realized I was off a bit. Measured 37.25". Packed in the spread and was headed home.

At least I got the stank off of the boat for the season. See you out there next weekend.

Nice fish, John. Glad you threw the stink overborad for the season!! Sounds like you got the planer boards running right.

It has been a little tough fishing this spring - - slower action than in past years.

Planers have been suprisingly easy to fish. Woody (the naysayer) got on my boat Sat morning and said "13 lines, huh? That should make a nice tangle. I bet we have a tangle already". And 8 hours later- no fish, but no tangles either. So I was happy to shut him up! And catching a fish off the board sealed the deal.

I will admit, I have severe issues w/ the paint I used. Apparently water-based & oil-based don't mix (even after the first paint dried completely, used some water-based porch paint, then spray-paint over), and when mixed together and then rinsed with water for 8 hours, the paint decided to peel itself off in large patches. Fortunately stripping it to repaint won't be too bad!

Nice work John! Sounds like a nice fish! Once you catch your first fish off of the boards it is easy to be come a believer!

Nice catch - Saturday was a tough bite.
Had to be a good surprise seeing the fish gained 10 inches coming over the side.
