Guys,
I am having trouble finding a Used skiff in MD - for a reasonable price.
I am looking for a 16-17ft Carolina Skiff DLX, 25-40 hp Tiller Drive, on a trailer. Preferably it would have a front casting deck, but that, and all other accessories can be added. I am NOT interested in the J-series C-Skiffs.
Believe it or not, this boat is incredibly hard to find.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, John.
I've been using: www.searchtempest.com it is the same general idea, just a little easier to figure out.

Went through the same thing you did. The few DLX's i found were newer and high priced, almost as much as a new one.
Just and idea........you can pickup some of the older aluminum starcrafts for a song. I got one in good shape, put in a new floor and moved the console to the side. It's a BIG and roomy 16 footer. It's surprisingly stable with high sides (thigh high in the bow) for a small boat. I found a 1997 Suzuki 55hp 2 stroke for it.
I'll be posting pics of mine soon. I have less than 2K in the whole rig....boat/motor/trailer.

I just did the same. I got a 16 Starcraft (welded) with a 40 4 stroke for $2K! it's wide open and ready to fish and crab.

C-Hawk,
Nice looking rig! I had an '86 14 ft Grumman V bottom w/ 25 hp for many years and it was a really nice boat. I bought that one new and beat the crud out of it, including hundreds of launches off the ocean and sound beaches on Hatteras Isl and other places south of there all the way to the Keys, and with age the hull started having rivet problems. If I ever get another aluminum boat it will be welded, not riveted.

C-Hawk18 - Man, that baby looks new.
thanks Jim - It's actually 10 years old.....just not used much. I knew the original owner who had sold it to a friend, who then sold it because he was just not using it. I did paint the floor and re-carpet the fishin deck.

Thanks Steve - It's got a nice wide 75" beam and NO RIVETS to leak.

Just wanted to give an update.
First, thanks for all the comments. Everyone is pretty much right on. Used 16ft DLX tillers are extremely elusive - I would have never guessed. I did miss a nice 17DLX tiller at tri-state a couple of weeks ago -but since then - there's been nothing even close within a 250 mile radius (on craigslist).
I am starting to broaden the search to other boats, but still holding out hope. I'm surely not interested in buying a brand new skiff... If you see anything good, let me know.

That's a real pretty boat - unfortunately, not what I'm looking for size wise.

There is a 17' CS DLX is on Bowley's Quaters road . 20hp tiller Johnson. It is for sale by the boat sales shop there. It sits in the field across from the garage. Looks good. I don't know the name of the place that is selling it. Maybe Riverside?? You all know the one after you make a right past Bengies Drive in, then up on the left. They also have a 24 DLX.

I was going to say the same thing as BowMovements. I am pretty sure it is called Bayside Marine service. They are on Bowleys Quarters Rd., and the boat is in the yard across from their shop.

Scott My cousin has a 2004 17 Dlx with a 2004 load rite trailer and a 2009 50hp 2 stroke Mercury tiller handle with electric start power trim and tilt with stainless wheel He paid $4500.00 for motor last spring. it has a bow deck and two eclosed stern seats the motor probably has less than 200 hours on it. He wants 5k for all if you are interested the boat is in Rumbley Md Just north of Crisfield md. He upgraded to a 24' so he no longer needs this one

Ahhh good strategy. Maybe you could post some pics of your top 3 and we could take a look and help point out some pro's and con's? Only to help you make the best possible buy, and get the most bang for your buck.

You want to do the shopping for me? That means I'll miss out on the best part!
Seriously - I'm pretty set on a C-Skiff - If I can find one. There's other skiffs out there; maycrafts, baybuilts, sandpiper, etc. people just don't sell them!
I thought I had a hit the other day - I looked at a 17' twin Vee. It was great except for general disrepair, the tiny amount of freeboard, and hull patches from opening up the sponsons to remove the waterlogged foam!

I wouldn't be scared of that Twin-Vee if it's already been fixed. If you get the C-Skiff make sure you check it for possible water entry. Some guys install and remove things from the deck and if not sealed they will become waterlogged also and are much harder to remove the water from.

Too late on the twin vee. I didn't like it anyway. I'm well aware of the water entry problem on C-skiff's as well - and definitely keeping a lookout for that.
