Last winter I reported on a project done in my community (Carriage Hills) using federal stimulus funds. The project replaced a deeply eroded stormwater ditch (ravine) running behind my house and restored it to a series of pools that will allow the water to move more slowly through the system. The work was all done in the winter so that the equipment would be gone by spring when people starting coming outside again.
I had not been down to look at the project since about March. I was quite impressed. The drainage channel looks great with natural materials like tree trunks, large rocks and pebbles to create ponds. There is a nice trail alongside the stream. I took a few photos tonight. I imagine that by the end of the summer the area will have more woodland growth to help stabilize and naturalize the area.
