Headed to Topsail Beach tomorrow 5/7........ don't know enough about the area to tow my boat down, so I'm looking into hiring a local guide to get me on the water for a day. Anyone have any advice about what is biting down there right now and a recommendation for a guide either inshore or near shore ??? :help:

The guys at sneads ferry marina can put you on fish. The flounder should be biting at the north inlet. Browns inlet I think. Also some spanish just outside.

what about Puppy Drum or Cobia...... any of that going on ?? Wanting a recommendation for a specific guide that you have had first hand experience. I've called a couple marina's, didn't get the response I was hoping for. Not interested in blues and spanish....... want to catch "challenging" game fish if you know what I mean.

thanks.... I will keep that in mind for the next time down. Topsail is a beautiful place.......... I might take my boat down next time, I figured out some things this trip. I hear they have some fantastic bottom fishing for Gag Grouper and Big Sea Bass within 10 miles of the beach.

Brian, next time you might try Capt. Joe at Rough and Ready charters. He's one of the top grouper guru's down this way. He runs out of Sneads Ferry also, near the north end of Topsail Island. I swear the man thinks like a grouper. http://www.sneadsferrycharterfishing.com/index.htm He's also in this month's Saltwater Sportsman. Good luck!
