Talk about an adrenaline rush,Me and a friend went to one of our tracts of land to check on thing saturday and stepped out of the truck, well as soon as we did I heard something in the woods just feet away and then I caught a glimpse of it and new it was a bear.I decided to get a little closer and the bear turned and walked out on the path we were on and when it stepped out looked me in the eye ,man you talkin bout a rush. The bear just eased out across the path and didnt pay me any mind until the wind was right for him and I suppose he smelled me and took off like something was after him.I might have to put my boy on him this year,he wants to kill a bear something bad.

I called in a bear while turkey hunting in PA; my buddy beat that when he called in a mountain lion in the Black Hills!

Most and I say most black bears are afraid of humans. I have hunted black bears since 1990 and have never had one charge me. The crap your pants feeling is mutual and the bear usually runs off. It is a different story if you get a sow with cubs or you corner one. I have been charged by several wild boars and consider them much more of a threat. It is pretty cool to see a bear while you are in the woods but still it's best to see him before he sees you!. A total different story with grizzly bears..........Gary

Griz is the reason i take a 300 ultra mag when i go moose hunting in Canada. Lots of Griz around where we hunt, never ran into one but like you said if it ever happens I hope I see him first. We never go to a kill immediately, always wait for a back up. Field dressing is when you are most vulnerable.

We have them thick on our hunting grounds. This is about the 5th time iVe have been within 20 yards of them.I had one about 400 plus that I walked up on coming out of the woods after a deer hunt. They dont bother me but I wouldnt turn my back on one.I have a young bear probably about 75 lbs coming around my rabbit pen where I train dogs,I guess its curious.

Black bears love to eat beagles. :eek2::eek2: They prefer the tri colored ones medium rare with mumbo sauce:clapping2::clapping2:

I have the 7MM Ultra Mag and love it. I've shot a 7MM Rem mag for 40 years but love the extended range of the Ultra. Any bear will get on a gut pile QUICK!.....Gary

Yov are right about the extended range of the ultra mag but it does pushback quite a bit more than some of the lighter rounds. I usually like to have a spotter to see if I made a hit, while I get up off the ground.

We have plenty of them here in northern Suffolk.Crabby your right about them beagles,my buddy was hunting a pack of 8 in Corapeake afew years ago when they got up on a sow and he heard the bear killing the dogs, all but 2 made it back to the dogbox.I guess she had cubs but she must have ate them because he never found a hide or hair of them.

Mine doesn't bother me too much. I used it mostly for crop damage and shot the deer at 400-500 yards. Most shots were prone with a bi pod with a few sitting on the bi pod. My gun is a stainless sendero with a heavy fluted barrel and I am 270 pounds so it's not bad. I think a 12 Ga slug gun is worse.........Gary

I agree the 12 gauge slug gun kicks like a mule but so does the 300 ultra mag, especially since it is an Alaskan model and only weighs 8 pounds with a scope. And did i mention I'm only 170 pounds. I had a Sendero 11 for a while but when you walk ten or twelve miles per day that extra 5 pounds adds up.

Weight makes all the difference! I have a 7 MM barrel for my Encore and that is a LIGHT gun and it kicks more than the Ultra. With my weight........what's 5 more pounds:clapping2::clapping2:
