Looking for some info that might help. when using deer scent and drag rag, should i soak the rag and when i get to my stand should i pour some on on the ground by my stand? any other helpful info would be thankful. Ihave only been hunting for a couple of years have not had much luck[grin]

Yes to both and make sure you hit the bottoms of your boots so there is no conflicting human smell on the trail. Hang some stink sticks in a tree around your stand and try to put the stand where a downwind approach is a shootable deer - i.e. don't block yourself out with heavy unshootable cover immediately downwind.

Stinkbait, I use fox or coon pee on my boot bottoms, and drag a rag with doe estrus in likely travel routes toward my stand. Hang the drag rag on a branch 4ft off the ground beside your stand. Also I use 35mm film canisters with 2 cotton balls in each. This way you don't waste your scent. When I'm hunting near scrapes, I will add a little pee to his scrape, but don't just pour it on the ground. The rain we had last night would have made it useless, and a heavy dew will do the same.

Try about 4 canisters, and put them off the ground on a log or something. Put them so you can see them from the stand in a cross pattern, but make sure you collect them when you leave. One time I left 2 because it got dark and I couldn't find them with no light. The next morning as I was climbing in my stand a large buck saw me in the horizon and started blowing like an elefant, then he got another blowing about 30yrd in the woods. Needless to say my morning hunt was over.

Hope This Helps,

BILL

Just be careful of which scent you directly put on your boot because when you get up in your stand is that scent going to be normal for a deer to smell at that height? Use your deer scent on the rag and a cover scent on your boot. A mature buck will normaly go downwind of what deer he is trying to identify so place scent and stand accordingly. If the buck can not get down wind of the deer and realy wants in then he relys on sight with the wind at his back.

Go get em'
