Crabbing Effort Today 1st Trip of the season 05-22-2010

Started around 6:00-10:00 Caught the Low-incoming tide-using 30 traps-Crabbing was very steady today considering being this early. I managed to get a real nice bushel of Crabs Worked in the 4-7ft range of water and the temperature was @ 66-68. Caught a bunch of 5" ones But only kept the 5-1/4 + ones. Also caught only one Female-threw back of course -also caught several two at time and at least a dozen + paper shells-thrown back to fatten up for next week..... Most of the crabs were in the 5-1/4" - 6-1/2" p/p range with a few over the 7" mark. Today’s catch included 1 Doubler (believe it or not) what a way to start the season off! Overall it was a great day!!

Well, nice work Jim. The bushel matches the grin on your face when I saw you pulling up! I went Sunday, (yes, in the rain - already baited and thought I knew how to read the radar), and laid the trot line in the same place I saw your traps - four crabs in two hours. Finally moved the line to another spot with one end in eight feet and that's where they were. Moved the whole line in 7' - 9' and started dippin'. Same size range. Worked for 'em but quit after 3/4 bu. First crabs of the year - very tasty! Matt
