Like with everything else I do, I always tinker thinking I can do it better.
I use a Sean Mann call which is the long flute style. I like the sound and it brings some geese in, but the pitch is high and I would like something that is raspier or more "throaty."
What are some of the calls you all use and can you describe the sound? I don't know if I should just work with what I have or look for something different.
Thanks for any response.

I use the Sean Mann Eastern Shoremann Express, Esatern Shore Express Shorty, and the Knight and Hale Double Cluck Plus. I like the Shorty over the other two until they get close then I like the 2X Cluck.

What differences do you notice betweenthe sounds they make? I know you want a different sound for long range versus dhort, but what do you think?
Thanks.

The shorty is way more versitile. You can get low or high with it. You can also make it softer without losing the "break point" of the reed. Does that make sense the way I typed it?

It does - thank you Brian - I may give it a try.

Good luck to you. I have WAY TOO MANY calls. But certain ones sound better with MY voice compared to others. One size does NOT fit all.

I use a Sean Mann Express Eastern Shoreman , Express Shorty, Mike Weller (1988 goose calling Champion) and I picked up a Fred Zink a few weeks ago. I like all of them it just depends on the situation as to what one I use. The Mike Weller and Fred Zink calls are pretty easy to use once you get used to them.

I have a pair of the Mike Weller calls. Decent calls, modified Olt A-50 and does have a nice sound to it. I think Lohman bought the rights.

I went with FRED ZINKS CALLS last year power clucker is a real nice ,all purpose call .Also have a power max. very loud, high pitched call. Either one you won't be dissipointed.
Goose calls are like women everyone has there own personal prefernce, the best calls are the ones that you are comfortable with, one that fits you.

I use the Foiles striaght meat, I've been very pleased with it. Lots of volume, plenty of character, and easy to blow.
