Guys,

I've only been hunting in a floating blind for 2 seasons and have always been a little unsure of the regulations. I know you have to be 500 yds from a stationary blind, but can floaters only hunt off of public land or can they hunt off of private property as long as there aren't any houses or other blinds there? I'd appreciate the help.

In Virginia you can hunt in any tidal water off any land except state or federal property where it is specifically regulated as long as you are 150 yrds from any stationary building (unless you have permission to be closer) and 500 yrds from any stationary blind (unless you have specific permission) as stated. Some counties require a floating blind liscense others do not so check the reg on that one.

Maryland is a different story. In Maryland the same rules as VA apply to in-state residence only. And out of state residence the same rules only apply only hunting off of state/fedral property or in any waters if you have a resident with you.

Hope this helps the rules are very confusing and complicated but use caution, be consevative and you will have no problems.

The simple rule of thumb is do not get out your boat, do not get close to anyones house or property where the tide will fall and leave you past the mean low water line in which is someones land and you should be fine.
