Many of you guys are modern day MacGyvers with the way you take a box full of junk and convert into a spaceship or time machine, but I found something that might be of use to some of you when you're changing the bearings out of your trailer hubs.

Yesterday I was going to head out and get the boat wet for the first time but I noticed that I had a bad wheel. Long story short, getting those new races in is no picnic without the right tools. What I discovered is that 1.25 inch PVC tubing works perfect for the 1.98 hubs. A block of wood and a hammer and the PVC drives them all the way in and doesn't get wedged at all.

I've even made a little kit to keep in the boat for those side of the road emergency bearing repairs.

Hopefully, the info will help out someone.

One of the best tips I have read on this site in many years.
Thanks Bob!!

I'll definitely add a section of PVC to my tool kit.

I took one additional step after an incident last year.... I now carry a "loaded" spare hub along with a spare wheel whenever I tow.

No doubt Jerry! I have thrown in my 1.5 ton floor jack with propper blocking on trailer trips. Saved my bacon once and helped others too!

see now that's the type of shit that make these sites a valuable resource. After you sort through some of the ramblings and bickering of winter... finally some useful info! I have plenty of trailers, from lawn and utility to boat and I'm sure I will use that tip more than once! ;-)

Heck, I just keep a spare set of preassembled hubs in the truck. Im not sitting on the side of the road assembling races.
