I hunted the Chesepeake state forest land south of Vienna,md. As I exited the woods and came to the parking area it looked like a graveyard for about 12 Whitetail and 2 Sika deer. Most of the deer were left whole and a few only had the tenderloin removed Myself and another hunter stood and felt so sick to our stomachs to see such a mess. This beautiful tract of land was just handed over to the public last year and this is what happens. The other gentlemen and I were embarassed as hunters as people drove by seeing dismembered deer parts stroed [spl?] about. What gutless scumbags!! I am surprised these loosers had the balls to drag the deer to the parking area.I would challenge any person to have one of these individuals (cowards) contact me and just give me a small reason behind this, but then again why would a gutless coward admit it?

This is the exact reason why most non hunters think that the majority are just gun slinging red necks! If a simple release of aggression is the problem then come on over to my palce and shoot your gun in the air and I will hand you one of my tenderloins! And no your not welcome in my home. Just stay out of our woods!I am willing to bet almost 100% of the hunters on this site are not involved in these activities but I guess this is venting.

I am seriuos if any body knows of or has done these acts please send me a private message I have a few questions trying to understand. There are people around who cant find a private place to hunt and enjoy our state grounds to feed our family and respect nature.I cant believe this crap!!I have no idea what I would do if I caught someone red handed douing this but I would be scared for my future freedom!

I wish there was a way to seperate these loosers from the rest of the respectable hunters. I feel as tho' someone has messed with my family or something..painful! [sad]

I'll bet DNR will be watching that area like a hawk from now on. For good reason. It is an absolute shame that any hunter would do such a thing. I guess all you can do is report them if you cross paths with one of them. Good luck out there.

It is this small % of "hunters" that cause us to always be on the defensive. It really sucks. I hunted one of the CFL for spring turkey, and how lucky are we as Md. hunters to have this beautiful land to hunt as our own ?!?!?!?!!?

Thank you for posting this and keep us posted if you get any more info.

We found the same thing on the Phelps WMA here in VA - three does gutted and left for rot (you can't shoot does at the Phelps) and one buck, left for rot but without the loins. They looked relatively fresh, and I would have liked to find the scum who did it. Losing my faith in WMAs!

Choptank,

Was this the tract on Elliotts Island Road? Very sorry to hear about this incident. Sounds like the venison was fresh...did you take any? Shame to let Sika meat go to waste. A buddy and I are over there quite frequent...will keep an eye out.

Fly,

Yep it was the Hornick/Oliphant tract..the first one on Elliots island rd. There is brown sign with a small gravel lot. The deer were from Saturday I assume. They were just piled up. I wish I could go on a "stake out" and catch em'. I even frown on poeple shooting deer just to give the meat away but atleast it goes to use. I spend all season around these deer and it just hits home about the common disrespect for game. Killing and letting it lay there. Scum bags!! Cowards!!

I will keep my eyes peeled. We go over often and sometimes late at night. If we catch them they will be in a world of sh@@. We shot what we eat. If we shoot more than we can eat then it goes to the homeless or close elderly friends who enjoy the kindness. We will also let the boys a Millies and on the Island know so we can catch these idiots.

After talking to a few people and other hunters I am vowing to start a petition or a written law against wanton waste. I found out today there is no such law against shooting an animal and letting it lay.I would love to have most sportsman on my side for this, is anyone else willing to take my back on this one?

It costs 50 bucks or more to have a deer butchered. I can see why someone would just cut out the loins and leave the rest

eastduck
11-30-2005, 08:18 PM
I will back you 100%. It's done with waterfowl and should be done with deer too.

choptank
11-30-2005, 08:25 PM
Mike are you kidding me.....If you cant learn to butcher a deer or take it to someone who can help then you should not be deer hunting thats is wasteful to the max!

mikehn
11-30-2005, 08:32 PM
I agree. As for dragging the deer all the way out to the street, that is for "show"

choptank
11-30-2005, 08:38 PM
I would love to punch them in the pie hole just for "show"..Good night gentlemen its been a stressful day!

Good luck to all the great hunters out here!

HEY GUYS,
SOME PEOPLE ARE BORN *******S ,THEY CAN'T HELP IT .MOST OF THE TIME IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY.AS FOR THE 50 BUCKS IT COSTS THAT MUCH JUST TO DRIVE DOWN THERE SO WAY DON'T YOU GO TO GIANT AND BUY SOME GROUND BEEF AND LEAVE THE DEER HUNTING TO THE GUY WHO LIKES MORE THAN JUST THE LOINS.
ALL THAT WORK AND MONEY JUST TO GET A FEW POUNDS OF LIONS ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????//

WHAT A CLOWN HOPE HE'S NOT HUNTING CLOSE TO ME.....

that sux a big one. we were in tx last year hunting and the law there is that any edible piece of the deer had to be eaten period. and there strict on that. thats were i found out that the neck is a great roast on a deer. it should be like that here. i

Hey MIKEHN

It don't cost Dean jack to have a deer butchered. I'm a real hunter that takes pride in the hunt and takes care of the animal himself. We waste nothing down here in Southeast Va.

Come on, fellas!!! Don't waste what you kill, especially edible meat that can feed you and give you back life in return. As for the petition, I will sign it if it would help, and I'd be all for starting a "citizen's game warden" org to track down and help put these clowns away. But, I doubt the game wardens would be all hot on that idea.

I think we are all preaching to each other. I doubt there's anyone in this discussion leaving deer on the side of the road.[smile]

I have a pretty good feeling those guys that dumped the deer there were most likely pre-hunting ( the night before). They most likely were driving around shooting from their trucks and then just dumped them off on public land. It really sucks and these kinds of people are not hunters, they are outlaws that have no business owning a gun.

Mako993

In retrospect, I didn't mean to say that any of us was wasting our kill. It's only the scumbag poachers who were. Right - we don't need to be preaching to each other here, but uniting against the common foe.

There is realy no real deterant to these loosers shooting deer at night and even letting legaly shot deer lay.

Dnr is too busy and understaffed that does not scare them.

The least we can do is unite and let them know there are hunters eyes watching and a voice to be heard on behalf of true sportsman.

I have a rough draft copy of what I am sending as far as a " wanton waste" law, basicaly calling for a law against shooting deer and letting them lay..Which there is not one and most protected species do. Anybody know where to send such a copy?

Instead of just *****ing like we mostly just do ( no offense) I am doing something anyway..may not help but lets see!

Tempted to post a sign with a note to these poachers on the spot next time I'm over on Elliotts Island. Sounds like somebody did a drive only to realize they shot more than they could handle and took what they wanted...why else would you drag 14 deer to the road and leave them.

Choptank - were they all does? Bet they didn't leave any bucks behind.

Fly,

All does that I could tell... Back where I came from in Frederick we had a few issues and we would put a sign up that said" smile" this seemed to deter some people.

Even just a once in a while cruise by Dnr would help things. I have not seen one officer in the field yet, not even on the roads, I support them but man am I getting skeptical. Ok I am feeling all frustrated again...Where is the DNR RARELY EVER SEEN!! I spend alot of time in the field hunting and fishing NEVER SEEN EM'! DNR HAS to patrol public lands.....My luck I would go post a sign and DNR would be there writting me a ticket for littering. There has to be way to stop ruthless hunters DNR does not help! or even scare poachers.

Chop - they must have slipped as I used to duck hunty below Cambridge in Fishing Bay and the man would come a mile into the marsh to check us. We would be five miles in from the nearest drop in and a mile into the marsh jump shooting ducks ans they would come across the marsh to check us. Have there been cutbacks ?

Last year I got checked three times duck hunting, once by the Feds over by the Potomac and twice by the DNR, two weekends in a row over at Gunpowder. So far this year I've only been checked once while fishing the Patuxent. Im always legal so no big deal.

choptank
12-01-2005, 08:12 PM
I have been to fishing bay 6 times so far 4 in the marsh and 2 times Sika hunting, 4 trips to the Chesapeake forest land off Elliots island rd, 2 times to Black water refuge, 4 trips to CFL in Hurlock...Never so much as seen a patrol car. Like I said I have the respect for officers but enforcment needs a boost if outlaws are going to be stopped or slowed anyhow.

Most of us should be legal and not mind being checked. But its a different breed catching poachers. ...night checks...deer tags...after legal hours is when most crimes occur.

Mike what did they check you for? Just routine?

Jason,

These guys on the last few posts have said it all.........
Years ago at FB on the opener of the splits, guaranteed to see the man all around the duck marsh but usually only during the openers.......after that nothing.

Deer hunting.....same thing opening day they would come on the land and check your stuff and they worked us over the one year for field tags. After about two years of this we have not seen them since.

With all the added land since then...............forget it.
Never enough of them to go around.........remember they also have fish and shellfish, complaints, etc.

well we check our own deer and we see game wardens every cpl of weeks but never a problem with people shooting them and leaving them never have I reckon some of them city boys with their new boots and new gun with their brand new truck didnt want to get blood in it lol lol We us everything off of deer dogs love the scraps. Glad we don't hunt near there
