I take it this is a semi auto (Remington?)
Ejection problems should all be related to cleanliness............
Dirty bolt and locking lugs
Dirty gas ports and piston
Too much lubrication which is now fouled with carbon or the lubrication has gunked up because of cold weather.
Any of the above resistance will cause the action to be hindered and not fuction properly.

Take out the bolt assembly and soak it in Hoppes overnight. Take a wire brush to it if you can. Hit it with compressed air and soak again. The problem is USUALLY caused by dirt inside the ejector. It is possible, however, to chip the ejection pin, but it's usually just gunk in the bolt.

it could also be a worn ejector, how old is the gun?

Does the gun seem to function (eject) when the action is operated manually?

742 have been having this problem for many many years. If it were mine I would trade it.
