There is a lot of that going on. I am in the area, and directly involved in the legal issues on behalf of directly affected victims. Media coverage isn't all over it, but that doesn't mean things aren't going on. I'll elaborate more when I have more time.

Because it is BP's fault, and BP has to foot the bill to pay for the cleanup!
Those millions of dollars profit margin for the last 10-20 years BP has reaped will be reduced in the upcoming years of cleanup. (I hope!)

I predict that pretty soon our government will be in the oil business.
They are just waiting for the damages to pile up to a certain number that they have in mind.
Then they will begin doing some clean-up and take over controlling interest of BP for re-payment.
The feds will not stop with BP they will nationalize the oil co.'s in the name of national security , Obama wants to CONTROL every aspect of your life ,as a nation we are way to stupid to take care of ourselves just ask Obama ,hhe is amazed we made it this far with out him . IMPEACH that bum and through congress out, time to start over with our founding principles.

Not trying to be a smart a**, but why would I give my hard earned money away and help defray the bill for BP? I also don't think anyone should be asked to volunteer to clean this mess up. With the high unemployment rate, BP can Hire and Pay the cleanup people a decent wage (or the BP people can clean it up themselves). Like I said, I'm not trying to be a wiseguy and maybe I'm just fed up with all big business(after all the bailouts) but I can't see helping BP one bit with all the TRILLIONS in proifts they have made over the years. Now a donation for the lost workers familys I have no problem with.

I'm no elitist, unless by that you mean "educated" (aka smart). Its pretty funny how republicans have use that label as some derrogatory title for intelligent progressive thinkers. Obviously, to dumb people, smart people MUST be "elitists". I guess that explains why Fox News uses that term so much.
Same people who were defending Bush's lack of response after Katrina. Of course, Bush was clearing brush in Texas at the time, letting Brownie do his job, not meeting with experts.
Now that I think about it, Bush was probably the one who invented the whole "elitist" terminology, since to him, everyone was.
It takes a pretty dumb man to sit around a chat forum hurling insults at people he does not know , while patting himself on the back about how smart he is. It is truly sad and in case you did not hear "Blame it on Bush " is over, now your boy has to take responsibility for the mess he has created .

It’s not bad enough that we are faced with an oil spill of major proportions. As part of collateral damage, we are now being threatened by an unending idiot spill. In spite of the tactical use of idiot containment booms (ICBs), they are continuing to flow throughout the country.
At least the oil is confined to the coastlines, but the idiots are found everywhere. However, they seem to be concentrated near radio and TV stations or internet chat rooms.
The Federal Idiot Management Agency (FIMA) has admitted to a shortage of ICBs. A spokesperson said “We just had no idea there were so many idiots out there. If we had only been tuned in to talk radio, we would have had a better handle on it. But NOOOOO….we were listening to NPR.”
The proliferation of idiots has been likened to the similar proliferation of cownose rays in the Chesapeake Bay. A spokesperson for the Chesapeake Bay Federation said that the natural controls over idiots, just like the natural controls over cownose rays have been reduced by “indiscriminate finnings of thoughtful people”. There have been efforts to develop markets for the idiots, in hopes of controlling them, but, like cownose rays, “nobody wants them”. Even bowhunters don’t find them sporting. “They’re just too easy of a target”, laments one archer. “It’s like clubbing baby seals; no sport there”.
On a brighter note, as the amount of gas driving the idiot release decreases, the spread may be contained. “But”, we are cautioned by officials from FIMA, “we can’t underestimate the long term damages that may arise. They can lay around buried in the mud for years, but if the muck is stirred up, they again become a nuisance. Idiots from the 1980s are still cropping up and causing damage.”
The National Science Foundation reports that “Up to now, attempts to isolate bacteria that might be used in biological controls for idiots has been markedly unsuccessful. They are so toxic to everything around them, that even bacterial cultures that thrive in hot, underwater geothermal vents, are unable to survive.” It is thought that in the event of nuclear war, cockroaches and idiots might be the only survivors, and crossbreeding could have even more disastrous consequences.

Wow, 7 years ago when Bush cut taxes for the rich no "conservatives" seemed to care about what their children would be paying for. Now all of a sudden you care about the future of your kids? So which way is it?
Can someone answer this?
Republicans are blaming Obama for the oil spill. Democrats and independents are blaming BP.
I would assume that the responsible party was either BP or God. Am I wrong? Was Obama on the oil rig deciding to only use 6 stabilizers instead of the recommended 21? I know I might be considered a mathematics elitist, but the math doesn't add up, even to me......

To answer your question I doubt it will be paid back, we will just learn to deal with the bigger numbers. But I will agree that it has to be stopped before it can be reduced, which might produce a situation where the cure is worse than the illness. And again I point out, that when the deficit was falling no one worried about it enough to continue. No one seems to remember that time, nor that the deficit doubled under the previous administration. So even with having added Bush's war expenses to the deficit, Obama has only increased it two trillion dollars, so hehas another eight trillion in reserve before he doubles it.
But to put in proper terms " the deficit doesn't seem to matter" Dick Cheney.
Rare Breed
06-16-2010, 03:08 PM
Well it may not matter to many now but eventually it will, remember nothing is free. It would make alot more sense if people could somehow take all of this energy used to BS back and forth and put it to good use to try and find answers to the problems rather than insult each other about Bush and Obama. Do you think either one of them really gives a rats ass about any of the problems that concern us? Not really, if they really did the majority of the issues would be gone. You know greed is the driving force behind so many things that the people in control can't see the forest for the trees. So you all carry on insulting each other and if you could see far enough you would probably agree on a few things. Wow sounds like our Government to me. I wonder where the problem really is.

But it wasn't long before an idiot blowout introduced nationalization of oil companies in general, and
BP in particular, and then things spun out of control when the BP (bull$hit preventer) failed, and no amount of top kills could stop the outbreak. I think it is time for Brandon to do his version of the junk shot, and junk this oily mess. And also remind us that we should refrain from political attacks.

BP Executives Agree to a $20 Billion Compensation Fund for Oil Spill Victims
According to Fox News, BP Executives Agree to a $20 Billion Compensation Fund for Oil Spill Victims. The fund is to be administered by Kenneth Feinberg who was also appointed by the Bush Administration (Attorney General John Ashcroft) to oversee payments to families of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/16/bp-executives-arrive-white-house-showdown-obama/
So between this story being reported on Fox News and having a former Bush Administration appointee to monitor the fund, we know this story must be true and that Feinberg will insure the Gulf Coast Oil Spill victims will be compensated by BP.
I know this doesn't answer the question of what took so long (other than we were not sure of the victims right away because the oil did not hit across the Gulf Coast immediately). We really needed someone to step up to offer a solution to stop the leak. Dick Cheney was so vocal criticizing on how Obama is fighting the war on terror. How come Cheney hasn't spoke up and offered a solution to fight the oil leak? He was the CEO of Halliburton. Halliburton occupies #1 market positions in deepwater completions, stimulation and cementing.

Back to the original post. "Where is our help when we need it?" I think everyone can help by cutting back on their oil consumption. I moved so I only have a 3 mile commute to work and my fishing boat is a kayak. It's a start... What are you doing to cut back on your oil consumption? If we don't cut back then expect more wars and more oil spills in the future.

Gwag, what is clear is that you know little about the President or what the administration has done and is doing, or about the situation generally. Some of that ignorance is understandable, given that you do not have inside knowledge, but most of it is not, given how readilly available the information is. Me thinks that your anger has nothing to do with the Gulf spill....
BTW, wasn't it Reagan who last declared amnesty for "illegals," and the last administration that was seriously considering it? Where was your angry voice then?
But for those who insist on getting all hot under the collar, great! How about putting that anger to good use rather than wasting it here? Let's discuss what steps we, as individuals, have taken to curb our petrol use in the last 50-odd days. Or are you still just fine with forcing society to delve into ultra-deep, high pressure, hot petroleum reserves that are little understood yet oh so necessary to feed or out-of-control and completely unecessary petrol addiction?

What pisses me off is Obama didn't solicit help from Cheney (see my previous post) or Sarah Palin to help stop the leak. Sarah Palin is sooo patriotic, I think she would have swam to the bottom of the ocean and plugged the leak herself! [insert Sarah Palin signature wink here]
The only way Obama is getting elected again is if he declares amnesty for the illegals
I have to disagree with you on this one. As long as Rush Limbaugh is the head and voice of the Republican Party (it sure hell isn't RNC Chairman Michael Steele, U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, House Republican Leader John Boehner or Newt Gingrich, they all bow down to Rush Limbaugh), a Republican will not be elected as President. Smart, moderate Republicans are going to vote for Obama again in the next election, like they did in the last election. Rush Limbaugh energizes the EXTREME right wing and actually divides the Republican Party.
gwag, what have you done to reduce your dependency on fossil fuel or are you one of those that champion the "Drill Baby, Drill" energy policy? President George W. Bush once said, "here we have a serious problem...America is addicted to oil". I agree with Dubya, we have a serious problem and need to break the addiction.

Its pretty much a given that the Democrats are going to support a Democratic President in office. The Republicans are so confused, that they won't be able to get there shit together in two years time, to offer a legitimate candidate for POTUS. As long as Micheal Steele is at the helm, and Sara Pallin is your voice of reason, its safe to assume that O'bama will be a two term president.

So far Obama has shown very little interest in the cleanup process.
His only goal seems to be to get as much money as possible from
the oil company.

Well, we have accomplished so much in the first year that if we stay on the same track we will all be in GREAT shape at the end of 4 or 8, and yes I do understand how politics and timelines work. And by the way let's not get into Bush caused the recession and now Mr. Obama is magically fixing it, that doesn't work that way either. If you truly know anything about history you will know that econmic downturns/recessions happen, it is easy to look up and see the cycles over the last 40 to 50 years and anyone that follows this will know that we had one in the early 80's we had another in 89-91 and then basically we missed one until now. My business has suffered through all of these and I am currently running at about 50% of what we once were. Lastly, when you start placing blame for the economic problems we are all facing right now I think you need to start with we the people, when things were good alot of people did alot of really stupid things. Agree or not data can be provided to support it all.
Carry on with the BS.
Goose please enlighten all of us ,what has obama done? John Stewart did a piece last night with speeches from the last 8 presidents .it was amusing and alarming ,you could have put any one the speeches in front of any of the eight talking heads the words were exactly the same. Why must you personally insult any one for having an opinion different from you . I despise Obama for one reason ,he is a socialist hell bent on destroying our freedoms . I dont want the the govt in my life, the feds should manage the defence and the interstate highways and damn little else , I dont care if I have to walk to work or cook over a fire as long as I have my freedom . I firmly believe this socialist will be defeated ,if not defeated he will be rendered impotent when he loses control of congress , neither situation will bode well for our country. FREEDOM IS THE ISSUE and obama is a cancer on this great nation. He is a muslim boot licker who is alienating our allies and bedding down with the terrorist,he has had more visits from a convicted bomber than any one else.I am painfully aware of what is going on, you see I watch and listen to all sides before I make a judgement ,both sides have something to say ,but the libs that drink the koolaid do not want freedom they want control. The American people will not surrender our freedoms with out a fight ,we have been proving that for over 200 years . Goose again you make stupid assumptions about people you dont know ,that is truly the sign of an ignoraant closed minded individual . GROW UP .

If you believe all of this then you probably believe Bigfoot lives in the woods of Virginia. This is from the Christian Science Monitor.
Bigfoot is alive and well in Virginia according to Bigfoot expert who runs 'Sasquatch Watch of Virginia.'

Gwag, some friendly advice: the first sign of weakness in life is lashing out at your enemies; the second is not recognizing who your enemies are. Some on here may have called you names, but I am not one of them. Unlike you, I have yet to called you a derogatory name or refered to your posts as stupid.
As for the rest of what I posted in response to your specific allegations, I've decided to delete that...you're getting frustrated and it's simply not worth the effort to address it at this point. I think Ontherivah has the right idea.... Hope you're enjoying the day.

Hey I had a Ford Focus and they are good on gas. Now gwag, let's have some respect for someone who gives there opinion. You did not have to tell Goose that. Now apologize.
Ford puts out some good products now, as does GM. As a Toyota owner (Prius and Camry), I'd seriously consider a Fusion hybrid or Malibu for the next car. Regarding chat room insults, no need to worry. I've been called worse. Some folks use anonymous online forums to act out, and there's really nothing to be done about that....nor does it matter much in the grand scheme.:)) It's a sunny day here in DC, at least one of my cases is going well, my son caught a frog this morning and I'm leaving work early to bike this afternoon. What's not to like?

Regardless of your history lesson, which I am aware of, OBama is CLEARLY cleaning up a mess... probably the biggest mess in history.
I'm not ready to place all the blame on Bush, but a lot of it certainly happened on his watch.
Two things piss me off about some of you whack jobs:
A) Socialism... it's not socialism by definition. It may look like like it, so you run with it. WE CLEARLY NEED MORE REGULATION.. CLEARLY !!!! Some of it I'm not in favor of, but it goes hand in hand.
If anyone on this board claims we don;t your just kidding yourself s, or your just stupid. IF we had regulation, the tax payers wouldn't own GM, Citibank, etc...The banking and insurance agency's took full advantage of no regulation to increase their personal fortunes. And now, we are ALL suffering. It's POTUS's job to correct a very big wrong. It takes time and cash.
B) Sore Losers - Obama a democarat, won the election, fair and square. The Republican's practically gave it to him by allowing McCain to pick that dumb bitch as a VP.( But that's another argument)
Personally, each politician that I have a interest in, ( POTUS, Governor, Senator of MD )whether I voted for them or not, has my full support for the life of their term. All of you Pubs cry like babies and seem so hell bent on raising a ruckus with the winner.. YOUR COMPLAINING TO/ABOUT THE WRONG PERSON... Go back to your leadership, those are the assholes that need to hear your gripes. They fucked up.. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT... But for God;s sakes give the POTUS a chance..
Rant over,, you all have a lovely day..

I suppose when you were asked whether your were uninformed or apathetic about learning more about the cleanup effort, you responded "I don't know, and I don't care!"
Thirty thousand workers, seventeen thousand National Guard troops authorized, 5 1/2 million feet (more than a thousand miles) of booms, plus thousands of vessels and watercraft. Do you think the government should be doing more, versus having the bill paid by the offender? Should the government have a huge cleanup infrastructure in place to address the missteps and misdeeds of every greedy corporation?
You, sir, are sounding like a socialist! Are the residents of the Gulf Coast complaining that the $20 Billion fund is too much, or that the money that BP has spent, or is spending on the cleanup is too much?
In case you forget, keep repeating "BP is at fault", "BP is at fault", "BP is at fault", "BP is at fault",until you get the idea where to place the blame and where to direct your anger. Unless you want to shoulder the blame for demanding cheap gasoline.

Maybe you "hear" each side. but you obviously don't "listen" to each side. There is only 1 major news outlet that refers to Obama as a 'socialist'. And hey, if Rush and Glenn say it every day for a year, you start believing them. Only problem is they aren't reporting news. They're giving opinions in the guise of news. Too bad some people don't know the difference.
I'll take my "kool-aide" over your "cup of crap" anyday.
And I want freedom too. Odd that your party demands freedom for some things but god forbid some gays want to commit themselves into a loving marriage or some glaucoma patient wants to toke some reefer.....then "freedom" goes out the window

Hi Bridgett... GREAT THREAD !!!! :clapping2::clapping2:
Was this directed at me?
I agree with some of your thoughts as well, I own a business in Northern Va. that has worked directly with the new home industry since 1982. The part I want to comment on again is the regulation part, do we need regulation, yes we do. I can tell you first hand that the regulating needs to start with the individuals, they need to regulate themselves, how many of you bought 1,2,3 houses, cars, boats, etc... in the good years knowing that there was no way you could afford them, hoping to ride the wave, hoping to flip the house or houses for there own profit, how is that any different than the banks, etc... ? This is not opinion it is fact. When was the last time any of you took out an interest only mortgage? To say that is the banks or the governments fault is BS. Would you do this knowing you could only afford the interest, you want to talk stupid, that is pretty stupid. So place some blame where it belongs with the greedy individuals that was fueling the fire. Now, with all of that said my heart goes out to the hard working people that got caught in this mess. Again I know it first hand, I had to lay off employees that I had for 20 years. When you start placing blame make sure everybody gets there fair share if they deserve it.
Let me know if that was directed at me, I have been playing nice so far, but if that was intended for me we'll see.

Now that I'm old
My pilot light is out
What used to be my joy stick
is now just a water spout
I used to be embarassed
to have the thing misbehave
and each and every morning
it stood up and watched me shave
But now I am old
and it sure gives me the blues
cause it only hangs down my leg
and watches me tie my shoes.
In the beginning God was passing out sexual prowess, he gave the monkey 20 years to which the monkey replied "I don't need more than ten". The ever greedy man stepped in and asked for the other 10 years, so St peter said ok while we are here you can have 20 years also. Of course the man complained and said that even with the extra 10 from the monkey that was only 30 years and certainly not enough. St Peter then moved on to the donkey and bestowed 20 years on him, to which the donkey replied 10 is more than enough. So up pops man and request the other 10.
Perhaps this explains why men have 10 years of monkey business, 20 years of manhood and 10 years of making an ass of themselves.

What does it take to get a thread shut down these days? I see that the children are seeing just how far they can push things. It used to be that on this forum obscenities were enough. I guess not any more. Off-color jokes don't do it either. Personal attacks......heck no. I am worried about what the kiddies will try next.
