All depends on how much you value getting back home, if you fish offshore. If you stay close to home, probably doesn't make much difference.

You don't make it clear if you are talking about a straight inboard, or an inboard/outboard. I would run as fast as I could away from the I/O, but a straight inboard is a lot less trouble, but they are hard to find in smaller boats. I have a buddy with a 25' Luhrs with a single gas 454, and it is a real nice boat. The outboards are going to be faster though, and you won't be likely to do much damage to them if you run aground, not to mention that you can get in a lot skinnier water with outboards by tilting them up. The outboards will be easier to trailer, but one certainly can trailer a straight inboard. Really need to know more about what kind of boat you are thinkiing about and what you plan to use it for.

Twins --- Multiple power - 1 can get you back if the other fails
Handles better especially docking -- Gets on plane quicker (usually)
I have twin 150's -- I run on both and troll on 1 to save fuel -- A big single eats more trolling
Drawbacks -- twice the maintenance plugs, lower units changes, oil changes w/4-strokes

Great inboard boat to consider and very economical is a Shamrock, they can be found w/diesel power also!
They are actually a tunnel drive setup that handles VERY WELL and docks like a dream!
If you find one in really good condition it likely won't last long unless the price is just totally out of order!
