I went to Buckroe Beach, VA to fish for Cobia. This was my first attempt. Now I know what to do next time. I believe that there wasn't cobia nor striped bass when we fished. Though, it was very nice to fish in a new place for a new species with kayakers I met through a kayak-fishing forum.
Here is my video fishing log:

I've been waiting for your Saturday report. :clapping2: It looked like a nice day to be out.
I was wondering where you kept the bait. Those kingfish looked like they were decent size. I definitely would've eaten those in lieu of cobia.
Here's the cart I use for sand. http://wheeleez.com/kayak-cart-mini.php I haven't tried it on fluffy beach sand, but I've used it on the sand at Point Lookout and some around Solomons that was a little fluffier, and they worked well for that. The 24cm wheels are small enough to fit in the hatch of my Outback (I have a Hobie-specific cart with those wheels) and in my Tarpon 120 (I have the cart in the link for the Tarpon). The hardest thing about using the mini kayak cart is strapping down tight enough in the right place so it doesn't slide off the stern as you pull on it. Just make sure you get the 24cm polyurethane wheels and not the 22cm PVC wheels, which are silver. I had several defective PVC wheels and blew out one with an overloaded kayak. The gray polyurethane wheels are much tougher, have a higher weight limit, and a wider inflation range. You need a small hand pump to inflate them because they only require 2-4psi.
Where are you fishing tomorrow?

Bill,
I needed balloon tires for the place. I am going to make a kart with wide plastic tire from a tricycle. I saw a guy using a kart made of a small cooler, two pieces of PVC pipe, foam, and two wide plastic tires from a tricycle. That was the best kart I ever saw for long pavement and long sandy beach. He said he had to drag his kayak on the pavement and sandy beach all the time.
So we can eat southern king fish? I threw away because some king were to big for the bait. Next time I will eat them.
I was busy preparing our block party in my community today. I will fish tomorrow (Sun) afternoon from 1 PM. I am testing my newly acquired Tarpon 140 (2008 model). I will hit Breezy Point because Breezy Point is close to me.

Great report! You can definitely eat kingfish, they are similar to a croaker!
Speaking of... be careful using croaker as bait under the legal limit, they are really cracking down on that these days!
I made a cart out of my milk crate but I didn't like having to having to sacrifice some of my crate utility to make it a cart, I settled on some paddleboy wheels from REI that are on sale right now. They work just fine.
Good luck with the cobia, I'll watch for your report!

good report. i have the wheel-eez cart with the standard wheels its a pain in the sand but much better than no cart at all. i'm gonna try the cobes next weekend at new point comfort hopefully there will be some cooperative fish in the area.
never caught a cobe out of a kayak that's my goal for this summer!
i cut the bottom out of a milkcrate to make a top for my existing crate (used zip ties for hinges a bungee cord to hold it down). thinking about putting a cutting board on top thats a good idea to use for cutting up bait. good luck next time.

No such thing.
I have not seen any kayakers used sub legal sized croaker for bait. We use 9-10" croaker and found that striper at 29" can barely swallow a 10" croaker. We only used croaker when we expected big stripers for that reason. Also we counted the croaker used as bait toward the daily limit.

My bad guys... didn't mean to sidetrack the thread! MD is cracking down though, or at least that's what my friends have seen on the water with the DNR checks... I'm sure a lot of those weren't kept for bait but for bellies.
Great report though, and video is awesome to have. I think I'm going to have to start trying to take more pictures/videos when I'm out on the water.
